The most Orangeish recording interface ever. Complete with wireless unit?


EDIT: Just read the site. Holy balls batman, its a computer. Not a bad one either, and it comes with all kinds of recording software. Still is a bit silly though. I'm not sure about having speakers on my cup unit. Wonder what the price is though...

I think there is a fairly high "gimmick" factor with this computer.

So apparently you can play the instrument through it also? Computers don't do well with vibrations, especially components like hard drives.

I think that, unless they are extremely well built and vibration isolated, you will find a lot of these failing.

If you are truly interested in one of these, I would wait until they have been out for at least a few months.

Someone needs to make a rackmount PC with as few moving parts as possible, a solid state drive lots of audio appointments such as XLR's and a killer audio card. Top it off with and only enough internet connectivity to update amplitude or whatever and you're good to go.

This could be big hit with many of the modeling software tools out there. They are a hit in the studio - they can be a hit on stage.

Yeah I surprised they don't start with a smaller SSD. You don't need 500GB to run a modeler. But I will say I have not had a hard drive fail on a laptop in several years - since they've been building in accelerometers. Watch the throw tests on Youtube. And real laptops are actually tested on shaker tables under a couple of G's

Cell phones, mp3 players, car radio's, cars - all have computers in them and designed right take the abuse fine.

I do like the wireless part. You'll get the soundman logging in to control your volume. Maybe even a hacker in the audience.

Hope they're running Linux. Or maybe they worked out a deal to run Apple on Oranges. :hiding:

(And someday V-Rack)

But it's not hard to buy a book size PC that can do this fine. Even Asio4All on the MB audio is very good these days.

It does indeed appear to be a full fledged PC, an interesting concept.

A couple of challenges that I wonder about are a display and input devices. Yes, it has software to get you going but how do you control/manage your software without a display, mouse and keyboard? The right ports seem to be there but it also means more items to carry if you want full functionality.

Also, I wonder about accessibility to the internal components and mother board. Can I upgrade or add another hard drive if I want or change the video and sound cards?

It will be interesting to see how this concept fairs in the market place.
