Orange Smart Power!!!

Anybody own one of these new range of Orange cabs?

To those not in the know they do a 410 and a 210 and the speakers are loaded behind each other, making for smaller cabinets with awesome sound - apparently.

so i'm looking to complement my matamp 410 cab with another powerful 8ohm cab, however i wanted a 210 (which the guys at matamp couldnt make in 8ohm) and this orange smartpower 410 is the same size as a 210 and is rated at 8 ohms.

verdict dicscussion and reviews welcome?

Fairly heavy, crazily overpriced, outdated engineering, basically pointless due to the 4x10 being as loud as a 2x10 and the 2x10 as loud as a 1x10.

I disagree. Orange isn't just a brand like Behringer either. They might be a little expensive, but what you get is good stuff.

I haven't heard those cabs in real life (but you neither I guess?), and so far opinions on them are very positive.
I don't have any problems with a brand taking a step out of the ordinary, and this way they are perfectly going with the downsizing-flow.

waiting to hear how they sound. cool idea (new, old, or otherwise) it'd be great if the 212 came in 4 ohms . . . and they are a bit pricey but I think most cabs are overpriced. 2 speakers and some wood shouldn't cost that much . . .

yeah still to hear one - i might take a trip to a place over here (UK) has em in stock. I play Matamp (who originally invented Orange then the owners fell out) cabs which is pure porn in everything it does, but they just cant build me a decent 210 which would match my 410. bit gutted about it actually.

I'm not sure what you disagree with, but I didn't say they won't sound good. Orange stuff always sounds good. To some folks more than others.

1249 for a cab that's no louder than a Peavey 210 until you get to ridiculous wattage, well, that's where I draw the line.

If you want to buy them, go for it, but I'll stick to my 600.00 cab that outperforms them on every single metric and sounds great to boot.

To be honest, I ordered a Bass Terror, but didn't think about the SP cabs either; I just went with Aguilar GS112s and now I'm thinking about adding another.
They don't 'call to me' like other gear sometimes does.

haha i was in LA this summer and checked out a few basses and cabs in a few stores, the prices for Orange stuff over your way is ridiculous. but then i guess it works teh other way around all the time, nearly every other bass and cab was cheaper.

I don't need to listen to them. It is physically impossible they could sound good enough to make them worth the insane price point. 70lbs and >1000 bucks for something as sensitive as a 2x10 with twice the power handling.

But, I am not much of a tone junkie so if mixing and matching stuff until your amp sounds good without any tone shaping floats your boat, I could see going for something like this.

You know, regarding the 410 your more than right (I didn't even think of that cab because I would never have considered it).
The only advantage of 410/610/810 cabs is that they move a lot of air, while they are basically 210s 'glued' together. No real advantage of the Orange there because they took that away.

But the 210 and 212 should make good practice/small-gig cabs imo. After all, they are portable...

Specifically for people who need very small cabs, have very powerful amps (400w @ 8 ohms + ), and need more volume than a 1x12 would produce by itself...I guess. It's a pretty small market.

I love my Orange gear, but I have to agree with this. The added weight and cost are not worth the smaller box volume to me at all, and the vibe I get is simply that they are offering a bit of an odd bird and using it to justify very high prices. The concept has been done before and didn't gain popularity......for reasons I find obvious. Having said that, I look forward to hearing them. I'm often an impulsive buy'n'try type and I flip too much gear, but not this stuff.

The orange SP410 is closer to 70lbs according to the specs (31kg or so?).

If Orange is overpriced I need Behringer or another brand, wow. You're right on there. Also, I clearly don't make any money with my gear because I think 1200 bucks for a cab that's not any louder than a Peavey 2x10 is outrageous.

There's obviously no happy medium between a 200.00 Behringer 4x10 and a 1200.00 Orange 4x10 that's as loud as a 2x10, but as heavy as many 4x10s.

Expensive does not equal the best or even good. Price is the poorest indicator of anything other than how thin your wallet is after purchase:scowl:

I'm sure it's fairly portable; but you can achieve the same sensitivity with a 2x10 weighing half as much.

If it's "more sound than any other cab you have ever played" you are either lying, exaggerating, or you need to get out more. That Ampeg 8x10 next to it would crush it in peak volume.

Again, I don't need to play it. Orange doesn't have any magical physics-defying powers.

I'd still like to try one out to hear it, they're expensive but not massivley against other 410's that I like and it could complement my other amp wilst also looking badass.
