Orange Smart Power!!!

I'm sure it's fairly portable; but you can achieve the same sensitivity with a 2x10 weighing half as much.

If it's "more sound than any other cab you have ever played" you are either lying, exaggerating, or you need to get out more. That Ampeg 8x10 next to it would crush it in peak volume.

Again, I don't need to play it. Orange doesn't have any magical physics-defying powers.

While I wouldnt say the Ampeg would crush it, it would be nice having it closer to ear level (vertical array of the 210 (410) s?)

Keep in mind the ampeg being sealed doesnt reach quite the level of a ported cab.

On saying that, give me a sealed 810 any day.

Ampeg used to have a similar design many moons ago, wasnt overly successful.

Also, on the note of price. You guys probably still get it cheaper than we do, and its from the UK! Get used to the hicked UK prices! :p

I haven't played them yet, but every one seems to be yapping about price so I will chime in. If they are anything like Orange's other products, they are well worth the price. The build quality and sound of their other stuff is simply amazing. It is gear that you can buy and keep for life.

I agree the older 15 and 410 cabs and tube heads are great.....the smaller SS combos....not so much. As they say in the financial world, past history does not imply future results.....we'll have to wait for some real world comparisons on these. However, on paper, the only advantage they offer is smaller box volume, and that comes at a hefty price.

I need to get out more? what am I missing? I played a lot of the high end cab out there and this is what I came up with..
I posted cabs that I have.. Im just tell you what I know for a fact.. Im not just some guy on here crying that they cost to much for his or her budget. Remember the Sp cabs a loaded with "neo" drivers witch cost way more than a regular speaker in return makes the cab cost more.
As for the iso design its been around for a long time. Mostly in the car audio world and some in the home audio as well.. I don't ever remember seeing a bass cab company making a iso cab.. I could be wrong but I don't remember one..

I can play just about ANY amp I want to play and have played a bunch. For me Im playing the 2 of Sp410 cabs.. they will out preform my SVT 810 any day of the week...I know I did a side by side test... have you?

Thanks for your review for a cab you have NEVER played. You might be happier with your PV cab and save you a little cash for the holidays god know PV's tone is to die for:rollno:

btw shipping weight is 61 lbs for the SP410 for your info..

Ampeg SVT 810 industry standard.... GREAT sounding cab.. that's why I will always have this cab in my arsenal!

Some other info for paper..
Ampeg Svt 810 800 watts rms
Aguilar DB410 700 watts rms
Orange SP410 1200 watts rms
just facts....

I think that some people are getting confused here. The Orange SP410 cabs are Isobaric cabs. Essentially they are as wide as a 2x10 as there are in fact two speakers lying horizontally next to each other but each speaker also has a second speaker behind it, essentially making it a 4x10 in a 2x10 package.

It looks like a 2x10 but it is in fact a 4x10 by virtue of it having 4 10's.

Whether a product is pricey or otherwise is subjective - if it is worth the money then it isn't overpriced, though it may be expensive. However, facts are facts and Watts are easily determinable with a bit of research. There is no excuse for giving false information.

I haven't tried these cabs so I don't feel that I'm qualified to comment on how good they are or not.

Yet again you demonstrate ignorance of anything except intangibles and anecdotes.

Thermal ratings have jack diddly squat to do with realistic bass power handling.

They have even less to do with volume - you can't even guess at the volume of a cabinet without its sensitivity, which Orange doesn't specify.

I've played a lot of orange amps and cabs; they're good, but about 33% overpriced IMHO. To each their own, but for those who think they are doing some kind of rocket science - Orange stuffs eminence drivers in tuned boxes, just like everyone else. For their standard cabs they don't even use custom drivers, just the standard range of eminence drivers you can buy yourself at online wholesalers for super cheap :)

I'm sort of confused why people here don't understand why the iso 4x10 cab would be better than your standard mid-level 4x10 cab...it seems pretty common sense to me...

IMO, it's more compact - literally half the height, higher wattage, better sounding, better looking, and from what I've heard around the forums is that Orange customer service is pretty decent too...

I'd snag an Orange iso 4x10 if I could find a used one. You don't lose much resale with Orange stuff...so it'd be a safe gamble I think.

I'm not crazy about the 2x12/2x10 iso design though, it's a little TOO compact for my tastes, but would be cool for someone who gigged a few times a week and had a smaller sized car.

Maybe a little off topic, but IMO you get what you pay for with Orange stuff. Same as Aguilar, Mesa, Burgantino, etc. That stuff isn't much cheaper. If you don't like the prices, search out some used stuff, that's what I did. Got an Orange 1x15 (with a "tuff case" w/ casters) cheaper than Guitar Center sells the Ampeg 15" classic cab brand-new.

So Im ignorant for posting power rating for the those cabs? Hmmm
So you being a god of all please explain why companies use power ratings then... other than "realistic bass power handling".. I will tell you, It's called RMS and Peak power ratings.. and that what I gave you is RMS ratings for the cabs. Just facts..
Who said any thing about rocket science? Last I seen the topic was about Smart Power not standard cabs... Also no one said that the ISO cabs are a new thing so Im a little confused on where you are going with this. and one more thing its no big secret that Orange uses Eminence speaker but thanks for the heads up.

So do you know Orange's sensitivity? or do you want to keep arguing about a cab you have NEVER played?

WHEN i play this cab, im coming back with my OPINION, it will probably mean nothing to most but at least i will have formed my own opinion and not started an argument that no one is going to win.

Thanks for the input guys, cheers for the pics too, it confirmed that the cab does look awesome and also that it would fit my other cab actually pretty well, so i'll try it out.

This thread is getting a bit over-heated (big surprise-the "Amps" forum seems to attract, shall we say, the 'passionate' amongst us...).

The op was looking for some real-world opinions. We should probably leave it to the op to weed-out the informed reviews from the speculative rhetoric. That said, it cracks me up how people who have never tried something can have any type of educated opinion?

Agreed!
I think there is some tuning to do on the 210 and the 212 cabs... Im glad Im not the only one that thought thoes cabs needs a little help...heheh

Empirical experience is not the be all and end all :) Sit two guys down next to a cab, one will say it's quiet and thin sounding and the other will say it's loud and thick and full. Perceptions are kind of hit or miss.

Reality is what I was discussing; the cab can only get so loud given its size. It's physically impossible for it to be much louder than 100db sensitivity (and still put out even a reasonable bass response) and extremely improbable that it'll take more than ~500-600 watts of a bass signal before you achieve some significant loss to distortion. It's also twice as heavy as a cabinet that will be as loud up until you're putting >300 watts into it.

I can't see why anyone would want the 4x10 iso instead of a 2x10 with the same drivers. You pay an extra bajillion dollars, all in exchange for the ability to get at most 3db louder. with DOUBLE THE WATTS. No one is seeming to get that. If you took the isobaric alignment out and just used the cabinet as is with two drivers, it would be JUST AS LOUD until you add a significant number of extra watts.

Those aren't opinions and they don't have anything to do with listening to the cabinet. You can know all of that without even trying it.

Same as you can know that a 4x10 will have poor dispersion in the mids and a sealed cabinet will have less bass output than a ported cabinet given the same drivers. The rules don't change if you put colored tolex on something and call it smart ;)

So people will go "HOLY CRAP! This cab is rated at 1200 watts, it must be LOUD!"

That said, it cracks me up how people who have never tried something can have any type of educated opinion?

No offense to you, but that's a really weak argument. It's not hard to look at the performance of a cab vs another cab when they give you specs. Even then, isobaric cabs are nothing new.

OP, read this thread:
