Orange Terror Bass cabinet selection?

I’ve recently purchased the Orange Terror Bass MkII head, and I’m considering either two OBC112s, or one OBC115(for now until I can afford a second.
I just wonder if anyone has any insight about the sound I’ll get from 2 12s with the full power of the head, as opposed to just the one 15.
I’m not going to be gigging, but I do prefer decent sound and tone.
So, can the two 12s produce better overall sound and low end? Or am I better with the 115 for now?

I have heard samples of both, and I do like the 15 sound, but you can only get so much from YT videos.

For reference, I stick to a Pink Floyd type of tone, if I were to generalize what I’m looking for in a broad sense.

Also, I’m not opposed to other cab suggestions. I had been looking at ashdown blue line cabs(cheaper), I looked at bare face, and was considering an Ampeg heritage svt410hlf(US made). As you can tell my budget is at maximum around 1200

I use OBC112s and even one is loud enough, but together they can easily bulldoze the entire band if you really crank the master volume. However, these cabs are not for everyone: they are tweeterless, kinda old school sounding, very mid forward but not nasal. To me, they sound like cabs built for bass players that prefer fat sounding guitar cabs. This is exactly why I bought them.

I tried a single OBC115 and it's okay but it's a bit dark and I prefer these twelves.

This is relevant to my interests! I'm eyeing a Terror Bass, at the moment. The problem of "which cab" is something I'm contemplating. So many great options, it seems.

There's an Orange OBC 212 around me.

I could order a new Orange 1x15?

I'm not sure the single Orange 1x12 would be enough, but, if I'm running through a PA and only using a cab for stage volume, would it be enough just setting volume for myself??

The OBC 212 is my least favourite cabinet. Nothing but mud. YMMV.

The OBC212 is the isobaric style right? In my opinion they’re discontinued for a reason (same reason other builders stopped making them in the 90s) and generally a poor design choice with modern drivers. You’ve got the added weight and expense of two speakers for the output of one with a little extra low end. The current OBC112s are deep enough that you don’t need the isobaric cab.

I have a pair of OBC112s. I mostly agree with the posts above, they’re very “vintage” style, lots of lows and mids, subtle top end. Good pairing for the orange amp. I found them less sensitive than the more modern cabs I was using before. With my berg 210 I had no trouble with stage volume and didn’t have the master up beyond 9 o’clock. With a single OBC112 I found myself pushing the master up to 11-12 to get the same stage volume (this is all with the gain set low/clean). Running a pair of OBC112s sounds great and easily gets more volume than I’d need. If you’re running bass though FOH I think a single cab would be fine. If you need stage volume for monitoring I might want two.

Wow, this is one of those cases where everyone hears things differently. IMO the OBC115 isn't dark at all and I find the OBC112 to be darker. The OBC115 has beautiful high mids while the OBC112 is all about the low mids which gives them that vintage sound. While I do like my OBC112's, if I was still able to transport them I would easily trade in the 112's and get the OBC115's again. Those cabs are awesome and I wish I could have kept them.

Also I agree with @coreyfyfe, the OBC112's are less sensitive than any of my other cabs. I also have to increase the volume on my amps just to get the OBC112's to a comparable volume. Again I do like them. They are easy to transport and get loud enough, but man I miss my OBC115's with the Terror Bass. That was magical.

So.... the question:

2 OB112's or 1 OBC115?
In your particular case I would say the OBC115. The OBC212 is Isobaric so it is not loud and is pretty dark sounding. A good 112 is actually louder as I did compare it once with a GK NEO112. An OBC112 is better sounding than the OBC212, but not louder than the OBC115. Two OBC112's would make for a pretty nice rig. IMHO.

PS: So to clarify, either an OB115 or two OBC112's depending on how much volume you need.

So using two OBC 1x12's would be louder than one OB115? I suppose you'd be getting the full 500w with the two 1x12s?
