Orange

I went to a Marc Ford the other night and his bass player was using an Orange AD200B head and a 4x12 HP cab. WOW! what sound out of that puppy. Does anyone here use Orange amps? And if so what do you think? How much was it and where do you get them? By the way Marc Ford was the guitarist for the Black Crowes in case anyone was wondering. Check him out at marcford.net.

Boston for me. I am an ampeg man myself. But I have never heard of orange before and I have to say, that orange amp rocked.

I know Boston Guitar Works carries Orange guitar amps (last time I was there trying out Laklands, there was a kid there cranking incredibly loudly out of a 10w Orange Tube Amp). Give them a call and see if they have any bass stuff. Just note that the store is actually in Brockton, despite the name.

I have used an Orange AD200 with Orange 4x10 and 1x15 for three years, and the tone is absolutely fantastic. The master volume design allows you to dial in any amount of natural distortion, or of course you can keep it clean.

The downsides are (a) they are expensive (though here in the UK so are the likes of Ampeg, Mesa Boogie, Eden et al) and (b) they are very heavy (though so is everything else that isn't either cheap and nasty or new technology and even pricier).

Anyway, just got me a hernia :help: so I've started thinking about using a 2x10 instead of the 4x10 for rehearsals...

The Orange AD200B is a fantastic head -- some would say it's the best tube head in production right now. Pricey, though. :hmm:

I would tend to agree, Bart. The few heads which I think might trump the AD200 are all no longer in production (and the Orange is at least in the running, even compared to my own personal 'top dogs').

Oh, and go Stanford!!! :hyper:

Tom.

Discovered the AD200 a short while ago. It converted me to a tube lover. Best tone I've been able to produce with my own hands/rig. Downside is no direct out and no FX loop. In the US you can order them from humbuckermusic.com-free shipping. They have the cabs, too. Also available at bassexchange.com (Sherman Oaks, CA).
