Double Bass orchestral bassists that stand

I've recently converted to standing while playing under the tutelage of my new teacher. I'd like to know if there are any other orchestral bass players out there that stand...

Here are a few that come to mind:

Alan Molitz - Solo Bass, Canadian Opera Company Orchestra

Max Dimoff - Principal Bass, Cleveland Orchestra

Any others?

Dennis Roy in the Boston Symphony stands. He's short, so he is about the same height as the guys around him who are sitting.

Great, thanks for the solid information.

I personally thought this was a decent thread topic. You don't see too many people standing in an orchestra nowadays, so I thought it may be interesting to compile some sort of list and I was also curious, considering that I've always been a sitting player.

Thanks to those that responded appropriately.

my apologies to the gentle and meek souls on this thread. Seems I've offended by commenting on another guy's comment about the general lameness of the topic,. On top of that, I did muse about one members change of teacher. My bad. Getting pretty hard to be honest.:rollno:

At this point I'd like to state the obvious and point out that if anyone happens to think that this thread topic isn't very interesting, the easiest thing to do would be not to reply to it. If you don't like the way another member is posting and want to tell them about it, PM or email would be the way to go about that. Or, if they are posting in a way that's against the site rules, please refrain from posting and report the post in question.

Clearly I'm not an orchestral bassist, but I can't see how a thread about orchestral bassists who stand is in any way an invalid topic in the orchestral technique forum. As said before, if you feel that the subject is uninteresting or lame, please just ignore it.

I stand in my youth orchestra, but more and more I think I might try using a stool. I play my bass really high and its some times hard to play comfortable near the fingerboard. So my options are A) lower the bass, or B) play with a stool. To me the first option has lots of comfort draw backs; I would have to lean over more and have my intonation be changed until I could adjust. With I stool I think I would be able to reach all the notes about the same but I would be able to let the bass lean into me.

Another thought I had was, I wonder if orchestral players like the extra dampening from there leg on the bass. It seems like it would kill some of the extra ringing while playing loud and fast. Anyone know about this aspect of it?
