Random question: does Lakland still make the Skyline 44-64? It's on the website, but it seems all the ones for sale are the P/J model.

Right here: Downtown Sounds. If I remember correctly, they have a connection with some collectors in the Boston area. You can always call. Ask for Tom or Aaron. I've been doing business with these guys since I got up here in 2015. And yes, it was kind of a shocker to see it hanging up there.Bunk, as a Massachusetts guy, what's your local shop that might have a Lakland on the wall?

A "Lakland" neck may not swap, but I bet Carl Pedigo could build you a neck that would. It might not have the "Lakland" logo on it, but it'd be the same headstock, and built in the Lakland factory, by Lakland's top luthier.
My Carlo 44-94 style is my favorite and it's got a few things on it that Lakland doesn't offer: 1.75" neck, Jatoba neck core, 35" length and birdseye maple blocks. My number one bass for sure.
That's interesting! But actually I've grown to love the 1.75" Glaub neck over the last 10 years since I originally considered that. It's very thin front to back, plays like butter, and I've adapted to it and don't even think about it now (plus the birds eye on mine is a thing to behold up close). And honestly I'd be superstitious about changing it. That said, I would get a 1.6 if I ever got another, to mix things up.

My only advice is to get as much as you can out of each day because before you know it you'll be 54.

Funny, those are some of the exact things I love about mine! Glad you grew to love it.
I looked at every photo I could find online. Still deciding on finish. John at Lakland showed me paints but didn't really have anything I like on an actual bass.
I like either off white with tort pg or black with mint or white pickguard.
I want a classic finish on this Pbass aside from getting it in sunburst. I already got a sunburst Lakland Jazz bass... but maybe I should?

They used to offer a trans white that looked really good. It still retained the classic look while showing a bit of wood grain.
I think they still have translucent white but that's not what I would want. I sent John an email already. Waiting for response.
So, I always thought Pbass looks the best dressed in 3TSB, and at this time, I'm leaning towards that finish on my 44-64. With chrome pickup cover. Yum!
My order has been moved up due to couple of cancellations. End of March is now the time. I just got a set of TI J344 and will drop these off before delivery so they can install them and set the bass up. Was originally going to go with Labella LTF, but never had them before and am afraid they would be too stiff to play.

She is FINALLY here!!!
I just took delivery of this P type bass from Lakland this early afternoon. Just got home with the bass. John and his team went above and beyond to get it delivered (almost 7 months) and to get me taken care of. Bass is 8.675lbs and has original Lakland P bass pickup. I had them put Labella LTF-4 flat wound strings. Still getting used to the 1.625' neck and the strings. Neck is SOOO smooth and thin.
Pictures or it did not happen. Here they are (not the best photographer at all and especially when I am excited):

Congrats!!! It looks stunning! I would keep that pickup cover on. Though I know it gets in the way.
