Ordering Lakland USA 44-64

It would probably be ready around for my 44th birthday, next year.

...[snip]...

Any advice or tips I should know about?

My only advice has nothing to do with Laklands, or even basses, but has to do with ordering items that have a long lead time:

Don't think about it. Don't count the days (or weeks or months), don't dream about what you're going to do once that new bass arrives next year, try to forget that you even placed the order. Instead, get on with your life, play the bass you already own. Let the announcement "Hey, your new Lakland is done, send us the balance and come pick it up!" take you by complete surprise. It will make the time between now and NBD so much more enjoyable.

That's a damn good advice!

My favorite all-time Lakland was an Olympus White/tort/rosewood Duck Dunn (old name for 44-64 with a jazz boound/blocked neck) that was once owned by Neon Trees bassist Branden Campbell. I loved that bass. foolishly sold many moons ago, but I still remember how good that bass sounded.

The standard for every P bass I've owned since.

My current White/Tort American Original Fender with a jazz neck and Lollar pickup is close to as good, but not all the way there.

I am choosing between LPB (but I think it's a little too light blue for my taste - looking at Google photos) with aged or white pickguard, aged white with black or tort pickguard or 3 tone sunburst with tort.

I already have 44-60 in 3TSB so that's probably too many in the same color. :D

Oly white, tort with a dark rosewood board is such a great lookin combo.

Sound advice above, I've had my Lakland 55-94 for 22 years. It's been my go to bass since I first bought. I retired a 1959 Precision Bass, shortly after acquiring the Lakland.

Very cool! USA Lakies are so great--you will love it. I have an early USA Glaub with the 1.75 neck that is my numero uno. If I could swing it I'd get another so I could have the Jazz width neck (interestingly, I contacted Lakland way back about swapping necks, and the neck pockets/fit between the two necks is not compatible). Anyhow, Oly white and tort is pretty hard to beat IMO.

My advice is to not make color choices based on photos. If you know anything about photography and know what "white balance" is you'll understand why. Suffice it to say that not only will the lighting trick you, but the photographer can trick you by adjusting correctly or incorrectly for the color of the light.

Fender had a color called arctic white or something like that, which i didn't like because I thought it was too white. Olympic white is too yellow for my taste. When I finally saw arctic white in person, not in a photo, I loved it. It's a subtle off-white that doesn't read like yellow at all.

Well, I finally decided to put a deposit on a brand new Lakland 44-64 to be built. It would probably be ready around for my 44th birthday, next year.

Always wanted a P bass with a jazz or 1.6 neck with Rosewood Fretboard. Like a Fender P bass, but not really. :D

Have yet to decide on the finish.

My only advice is to get as much as you can out of each day because before you know it you'll be 54. :)
