Origin Effects ~23% price hike?!

I’ve been eyeing the BassRig Fifteen for some time and just noticed today it went up in price here in Canada.

I can’t find what the old price was anymore, but the Cali76 went up by 22% and the DCX by 23%.

Origin Effects definitely makes some of the best products nowadays, and I know everything is going up in price, but 22-23%?!

Them multi effects are looking more and more appealing…

With a name like trout fishing you must be using click bait.
I wish I were. Receipt is from February 2026. Same store. I don’t know if the price went up in the US, UK or other countries, though.

Also, the name, and profile picture, comes from a novella by Richard Brautigan. It’s one of the most imaginative books I’ve read. His other novella, In Watermelon Sugar, is also amazing. Check it out if you a chance!

You have no idea what the price increases have been for scientific instruments, parts, and consumables.
I’ll leave it at that.

@trout fishing have a look on kijiji, there's a guy in Winnipeg that has been trying to sell an OE Bassrig15 for a few months. He might ship it, I would have bought his if I didn't already have one. Excellent pedal, btw.

edit - just checked, the add is still up

otherwise I got mine from here -
they also have the cali at a beter price, in stock

That appears close to being on par with USD prices. So I'll guess the North American importer is in the USA that needs to offset the exchange rate due to weak CAD, plus CA import duties, etc. There's also the possibility of Origin Effects raising their wholesale pricing to do semiconductor price increases.

Cars.
“With average new- vehicle prices hovering near $50,000”…

Wait, what?????

Manufacturers have been eliminating small sedan lines in favor of SUVs and pickups. Have you been on the road recently? Small cars are a dying breed. It'll bit them on the behind but for now that's what it is.
Yes, I drive a 2012 Toyota RAV 4, 6 cylinder, Limited. I noticed at the dealership that they only offer this vehicle now as a ‘hybrid’, and they’re asking $40k for the base model. The vast majority of vehicles here in Tallahassee are SUV’s and pickup trucks.

That’s where I bought my first Cali 76 while visiting Montreal! What a great music store. I spent 3 hours trying different comps and effects. The staff were not only supportive, they were involved in the discussion and helping me out.

Sweetwater has that Cali 76 with the led's for $419 USD. With the current USD to CAD exchange rate, that runs out to around $597CAD, so depending on the distributor, etc., that's in the ball park at $629CAD. Current exchange rate is roughly CAD is 70% of USD.

I can think of why that price jump occurred, but a) my blood pressure starts to spike, and b) the moderators ask us to forget such topics, so I'll let it lay.

Here are some prices for the OP’s pedal of interest:
There is a disclaimer for the Canadian store.
US Sweetwater: $579
Canadian Mojoelectricguitars: $539 Ca?

Origin Effects is a British company; the factory is in Buckingham, UK.

Disclaimer:

“! Please note: U.S. import fees may apply at delivery.
These fees are charged by U.S. Customs and collected by UPS.”

For what it’s worth I don’t think it’s accurate to compare the prices between US and Canada. It’s made in the UK, so the same duties, etc. Don’t apply.

Let me let you guys in on a little secret: It’s been a while since I’ve compared, but TI strings were (maybe still are) cheaper in Canada than in the US by a somewhat considerable margin.

Even prior to a year and a half ago, TI strings were more expensive in the US than nearly anywhere else in the world. It was cheaper to order from Thomann and pay for international delivery than to buy from a domestic reseller, including the specialty string dealers. Recent events have only exacerbated an already-considerable price gap.

By the way things are going, it’ll soon be cheaper for you guys to get on plane to Austria, buy the strings, spend the night and fly out the next day 😂
