Kkroger and ASATMAN, thanks for posting the pics. I just rearranged my music room for more space and I guess I'll have to get out the '51 reissue to sit with the Classic '50s and the SR5.
Sketchy? Steel Hanger fastened to Concrete wall....
Unlikely to suddenly detach from the wall.
But I feel ya.
Having had PLENTY of instruments knocked off floor stands onto concrete etc... I guess leaving it in a case is my only other option.
I plan to do display cases on the wall but have not gotten that done yet.
First year in my new home...
Even if the hanger is stable, somebody can walk by and brush the bass with their shoulder, and...whoops. But that's just me, a belt and suspenders guy when it comes to such stuff.

I'd be more concerned that its secure and that since it looks like its basement level the temperature and humidity are conducive to instrument health. Especially with a bass that's probably somewhere in the $10-16K range hanging out.
I understand. I have never had one knocked off a hanger and we shoot pool at the pool table there all the time so always around the table.
There is 6' between the wall and the rail of the table.
Not arguing that it is not possible.
What I plan to have are display frames behind the instrument and possibly a tempered glass front. will see how that all goes.
I have more instruments to hang as well.

your bass is stunningly original. Let me give you a little history.... there were 3 builds of 51 p basses. the dates are middle September 9/18/51 about 4 were made of which only 2 survive. then the bass was redesigned and another batch was made from Oct 29 to Nov 7 body date, all of these basses have neck dates that fall between Nov 19 and Nov 21, I have data on 25 or so during this period.... your volume cavity is absolutely original, I assume that is a .1 uf cap and the resistor is a 15k 20% resistor, this is correct for these basses. the September basses had .05 uf Astron caps just as the nocasters of that period did. there was another batch with body dates of Nov 17 and neck dates of Dec 6 to Dec 19, I only have data on 3 of these although more were made. so far there are no Dec body dates on any 51 basses just necks. About 47 were actually made in 51 and as many as 84 were sold by early 52, maybe dated 51. youhave a beautiful bass take care of it!!

Those things are museum worthy in all honesty, the first successful mass produced electric bass from the first year of production. Iconic to say the least.
I'd be more worried about security than hangers! By '64P is lost in a bunch of other basses in their cases. I hope that any scumbag that breaks in will just grab the shiniest looking bass and leave the battered '64 alone!

Alright, ladies and gentlemen. It takes two people to secure a home: one back stage, and one out front. One man alone cannot do this. Wayne, you will run the backstage team. Milton, you are my liaison between Wayne's backstage team and Garth's front-stage team which includes myself in the booth. To the left and right of the stage are machine-gun pillboxes, 1919 Browning. Now these babies tend to heat up so shoot in 3 second bursts. In the event of capture I will personally distribute these cyanide capsules to be placed under the tongue like so. Though it is sacrilege to mention in the same thread, I owned and played a '70 Telebass for 15 years. Thoughs were supposed to have been made from NOS parts, except for the lollipop tuners. Now I own an '80s Japanese '51 reissue. I say this because Leo was indeed a genius! Even without the wood or phenolic bridge pieces these bad boys can sound like an upright. I was asked by a classical string player had I tracked with an upright when he heard a mix I had just finished. I had absent mindedly lifted my RI and recorded during a session.

Thread Resurrection Detlef Schmidt did an Appraisal on my dad's Bass and valued it at $20k could be more or less depending on who was "purchasing" though it is not for sale, Valuing it for insurance purposes...
