It's that time of year again and I feel a cold coming on. You know the feeling.
What do I do now? Stay warm, exercise, eat well, drink hot liquids and ride it out?
Of course, my wife will make some chicken soup, that's a given.
When I go to the store I am overwhelmed with all the cold treatments. I take Mucinex if I get a bad cough and/or clogged up.
What about all the other stuff?
My wife swears by Umcka but that stuff makes me even more sick.
I have had some luck with Cold-Eeze in the past and I have read studies that show that zinc helps. That is the main ingredient in Cold-Eeze. Id does give me the pookey rookies if you know what I mean.
I'm not talking about things that treat the symptons like cough syrup or Nyquil but things that may help lessen the severity and/or stop a cold.
Is there such a thing or is all this stuff snake oil?

Lemon fizz with gin!

I honestly usually just tough it out, except maybe a bit of cough syrup or neo citron for when I'm sleeping, if it's bad enough to affect that. I feel that this has prepared me for living in my current location, where traditional medicine is very culturally different, and so are the pharmacies.

It's amazing how well this stuff works. Completely knocks out cold symptoms almost immediately. It makes you feel like you don't have a cold......for about a half hour. Then the congestion comes back and punches you in the face like a phlegmy boxing glove.
For me I get about 4 hours, then time for another one

I had plenty of illegal cold remedies but now that I am responsible and got my poop together it's DayQuil and psuedoephed when the sinuses are really bad. Mucinex and Tussin are great for couch and chest congestion but now that I switched from smoking cigarettes to vaping I don't get as bad of cough and phlegm. Also I keep plenty of ricola and halls on hand for sore throat.

Zinc has done a great job of keeping me well. Take one a day with water. Best wishes.
