Double Bass Other pickups-questions..shadow/vektor/full circle/ehrlund

It's been quite a few times that I've tried the lifeline and it's been the same result

.. But ok fine maybe if it was installed and then the bridge was shaved down to the height I play on then maybe it's not so stupid..

Perhaps the lifeline wasn't made to support to pressure of a 5-string bass?

The lifeline sounds better than the realist- but doesn't work in the current gig setting and it kills the feeling on my bass and is just completely muffled in the mix.. I kinda think there might be too much pressure on it from the 5th string..

Who knows but I will hopefully have the full circle and shadow in 2 days anyway so it's not worth my fighting or trying to take my bass to a luthier to shave the bridge..

I'm going to make another video of me playing and try not to be so clacky..

Yes the eminence 5string is the bass I'm trying the different pickups on.. I've been told only use the realist but hey I have to experiment..

I want to use the full circle but I want the adjusters to be all the way down.. That won't work? Or are you saying that he angled foot will make it sound muffled more or something??

But yes I did get the shadow just in case I am not happy with the other two..

The angled foot will give you problems with the Full Circle like with the Lifeline. It's a good pickup, just the setup for it needs to be done (even if it calls for a new or different bridge). Don't sort it out just because you have a bad setup for it.
If you need to remove wood from the bridge wing to slip in the SH-950 just remove a very little bit (almost nothing) and try the pickup again and repeat. It was very little I needed to remove from the bridge wings of my bass to get from a compressed sound to an open sound. And make the contact areas pressing against the pickup as parallel as possible.

I brought fine sand paper but hopefully I won't have to use much if at all.. I'm really looking forward to the shadow that goes into both wings.. I tried the bassmax pickup a few times but it only was really bass heavy and there was no treble or g-string power.. Also same the d -string so I hope the double Wong shadow solves that..

I have the realist on the bass now because I couldn't stand the feeling with the lifeline.. But the realist just sounds so boxy.. I'll try to eq it but it's usually a disaster..

I just can't wait to try pickups that don't require pressure or that nonsense.. That's why I kinda want those pickups that drill into the bridge or such.. I can't wait to see if the EHRLUND works on an eminence..

Since your working to get a musical tone from the Eminence, you may have to experiment with several pickups before you get something to work. My experience with the Eminence, is that, since it has a much smaller body it requires a pickup that's designed for it's acoustical properties. Hopefully you can find one that works.

I'll find it again.

I found this but it's not the exact video I watched.. I'm trying to find the other one

I wish they had actually played the pickups and compared them. That would have been more useful to me. Thomann is a great company, if you live on the European continent or The British Isles. Unfortunately, the shipping and return shipping, VAT and Customs costs can realy ad up. This makes it impractical to deal with them in the U.S. . Just my take. I have purchased a few items througn them.

So thanks to Jonass guy I have to wait another 2 weeks before I get these pickups now that I spent over 900 Euros on.. and strictly told him many many times that I need them by september 13th..

Today is september 13th and nothing has arrived.. thanks Jonass of a guy.

Bass Facer,
Perhaps you should contact Jonass and discuss your problem in a more private forum. Although I've only have one experience with him, he was more than
willing to make sure that I was a satisfied customer. The logistics of timing shipping a parcel so it will arrive precisely on a specified date, isn't as easy
as one would think There are enumerable places where packages can "get stalled" in the system, that have nothing to do with the seller. Just a suggestion.

Yes well the package it's sitting in the office waiting for me ..

The problem was it arrived on September 14th but I needed the package September 13th and left the UK on the 13th only to now have to continue to use What destroys the sound for my personal taste.. And the band and audience.. Etc.

I understand things being sent around the world can be delayed and all.. But I'm pretty sure a tiny little package if had been sent anywhere around September 2nd or 3rd would have arrived by September 13th.. We started corresponding earlier..

That's why I was upset. I'm sure Jonas is a good guy.. This is probably just a bad timing order or too busy or something.

In any case I have to let it go and what you guys who think I'm being a little too far out on this don't realize, is that this was time sensitive for a gig and now I have to play for two weeks with a muffled terrible sound.. I was really depending on these three pickups.

You all know sound is everything.. Especially today.. It's like the difference between when you have an old live recording that crackles and pops and you can't hear everything clearly or a new state of the art studio recording with pristine clear and clean sound..

Which one are you going to listen to more often and of course you want to hear the cleaner professional recorded sound over some live YouTube recorded with a small phone..

Point is I was just really depressed when it happened because of two weeks with more of the terrible muffled sound I have to deal with. I've been trying to E.Q. But the pickups frequencies that they default are as you all know - nasal and thin and honky..

So I just want the EHRLUND or DPA or the next closest fuller open sounding pickup like the full circle or shadow which I all bought.

And can't use them for my two weeks now,. I'm just frustrated about that as any of you would be also.

Got the 3 new pickups today..

Could only use one of the three and just barely! Haha

I couldn't put the shadow on because the bridge has to be shaved more for it to fit..

I couldn't use the EHRLUND cause (like e wry body already knew..) the EHRLUND doesn't really pickup a mini bass body (eminence). It just sounds really thin but the funniest thing is that the EHRLUND Is the closest thing to what I wanted.. Maybe I can keep trying to move it around and see if it can get any beef to it.. But odds are it won't cause of the small body..

I then proceeded to try to put on the full circle adjusters and they fit correct in the threads but then the other side didn't want to fit in the feet!!! Go figure!!!

What a day.. So then by complete and udder ridiculous luck and God send miracle the ship I'm currently in has two other four string versions of the eminence bass! So I tried the feet of the 4-string old eminence bass and it fit..

So now I have to use the feet of a completely other 4string eminence bass to use the full circle on my bass haha.. Got to love life..

It would be nice to get the EHRLUND to somehow work with the eminence - I tried to E.Q. Al, the bass up and took out 1000hz and it started to sound ok but it just won't push enough..

I did get it to feedback and I am sure I lost some hearing attempting that..

Thoughts ideas?

I need to somehow fit the shadow correctly on my bridge wings and then somehow use my original feet of my bass for the full circle but the threads fit but just bit the other side that goes into the feet..
The feet of my bass seem very thin and wimpy ha.. And the holes not the feet is small -

So is that something I can have a luthier drill bigger holes in the already drilled holes of the bass feet?

Pictures if needed and or interested..

Oh and when I did use the full circle with the other basses bridge feet on my bass, it sounded loud and boomy on the B, E, A strings.. But little thin on the D and really lighter on the G string.. The G string was actually kinda twangy.. That maybe just my string or the way the bridge holds it right?

Would changing the G string to something brand less twangy help that perhaps? Evah pizeralli G string ??

Crazy update right?
