When I lived in Asheville, NC I used to make the 5 1/2 hour drive once a month or so to catch Pat McLaughlin at the Douglas Corner Cafe, mainly so I could see (and chat with) the amazing Michael Rhodes.

I hunt and fish. I hunt for things on the internet, and fish for things near my desk. Actually, I had to check my pictures, to check whether I have any hobbies. How about taking pictures:
Snowboarding (till I broke my back). Motorcycling (till I took a slide). Target shooting (haven't blown a toe off yet).
Took a tap dance class on a whim 7 years ago and fell in love with it. Became obsessed with its history, its steps, and eventually had a custom pair of tap shoes and portable maple floor made. Never thought in a million years I'd be a tap dancer. Goes to show sometimes your hobbies find you.
Interesting side note: maple has long been considered the best tonewood for tap. It's loud, sharp, very percussive, and makes for one heck of a durable dance floor.

I've competed with some of the best chess players in the world. Fell in love when I was a kid. I'm rated in the top 5% of chess players in the U.S. and 10% worldwide.
Fishing, catching fish, eating fish, sharing the catch with others who enjoy eating fish but don't have the opportunity to procure them. "So long, and thanks for all the fish"...

Short version...I drive, write checks, and eat tacos.
Longer version...My bass playing time got squeezed out when my youngest daughter started playing travel softball at 10 years old. I was one of her team coaches from 10-12, but stepped out of that role at 13 (it was time for her to be out from under my umbrella). She's 14 now, and on a path to playing college ball.
Over the past few months, I have started pitching picking up a guitar, on occasion.
Longer version...My bass playing time got squeezed out when my youngest daughter started playing travel softball at 10 years old. I was one of her team coaches from 10-12, but stepped out of that role at 13 (it was time for her to be out from under my umbrella). She's 14 now, and on a path to playing college ball.

The oldest fountain pen in the stable is a 1936 striated grey Sheaffer Balance that works as well today as the day it was made. Many, many inks and more or less settled on one brand of writing paper.
