Hey all.

Here's what I got.

Cabs:
Peavey Tour 410 8 ohms
Peavey 1820 4 ohms

I'm setting my sights on GALLIEN KRUEGER 1001RB-II to run Peavey tour 410 and the 18" Peavey Black Widow in the 1820.

Should I do this since the ohms are different?
I've heard from Ampeg that this shouldn't be done since it would change the balance.

Opinions please.

My understanding is that running a 4 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab together gets you 2.67 ohms. as long as your head will run at 2 ohms, you should be fine (I do this myself.) Check the back of your head and look for a minimum load. If it says the minimum load is 4 ohms (like the ampeg SVT-3) then this is a bad idea.

The 1820 @ 4 ohms, would be fine. Isnt it an 18" and 2 -10's? Or get rid of the 1820 and get another 410 at 8ohms. The you will have an "810" at 4ohms.

Yea it's an 18 and two 10's but it has jacks for running the 10's or 18 by themselves.
I believe that the 18 inch by itself is rated at 8 ohms.
I've looked at a replacement 18" black widow and it is rated at 8 ohms, but I'm not for sure If it would be the same type as what I have in the 1820. I would think so though.

That would be the best (two 410 cabs), but since money is an issue right now I have to go with what I currently have until I can get another 410.

You can't run both cabs with the GK head, it has a 4 ohm minimum load.

cant you run the 1820 full range by itself @ 4ohms? The separate jacks are for bi-amping, but it should have a full range input.

Yes it has full range, and I use it when running my peavey mark 6 head (because it's the one I currently have) but I need more power than the mark 6 has.
I've been using it for about 10 years and it's been great overall but I am just not satisfied since I have played through my friends GK 1001 RB II.


I just opened my cab and found that the Black widow is rated at 4 ohms.
I think my other option is to by a replacement 18 inch at 8 ohms that way I will be able to get the full power of the GK 1001 RB II amp instead of getting only half using the one 410 cab.
Anybody got any good suggestions as to what is a good 18 inch replacement speaker at 8 ohms might be?

There was a discussion about this about 3 weeks ago. You already know the GK will not operate below 8 ohms. So, as you know you can't operate the Peavey 4 ohm speaker along with another 8 ohm speaker.

You can replace the BW 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm model. That'll cost you the price of the new speaker. Better off buying a separate 8 ohm cabinet with an 18" speaker used. Less weight to carry too.
