Ouch, thumb issues

Fingers bunched and supporting each other. Move the whole hand! It's the traditional way on bass. Once I got used to it my technique opened up and actually play over a wider range of frets than I used to. Plus zero strain on thumb or fingers and automatic muting

Yes, for years i (for a lack of terms) fingered each note. Now it causes pain to stretch my pinky a few frets down! I saw a guy skillfully playing with all his fingers together like you do. It would help me. I have been trying to work on that. gotta get practicing, i have a gig Wednesday night! Thanks for the reply!

Maybe not ideal to play lead on Donna Lee but so effective for just about everything else. Best of luck sorting out your hand, hope it doesn’t require surgery!
