Geez, sorry for your bad luck, but that's repairable. I agree with the solid color idea...going to be enough glue lines that it would be pretty tough to use a transparent finish.
You might consider using one of the 'Mystic" auto finishes that changes color as you change your angle of viewing. That would still be a conversation piece for your shop.

I hate to see such a nice piece in that condition. I would take it as a sign from the bass powers that be to separate two and make 2 great basses out of the 1!!
While I do like the idea of making it two separate instruments (I did joke about the necks wanting a divorce from each other...after I quit crying...
), I believe that I will stick with putting it back together. I will post a thread when the rebuild starts.I had it on a wall hanger made for displaying instruments horizontally...The bass hung on it (in my old shop) for the past year with no problems.
When it was installed at the new shop, a different type of fastener was used to mount it on the sheetrock; The lower support (holding the body) gave way, tearing through the sheetrock. My fault totally; I should of known better.
Thankfully, it landed on the lower bout of the body and the necks were not damaged.
It will live again.

Well, both ideas seem fine. So maybe you could consider another opportunity here. Can you develop a joint for the two halves? You know, such that they can be connected and played together or disconnected and played seperately?
It would be a first I think. Just sayin...

Document the repair really well and use it to get more repair work. It could be great for business.

Either as twins or one bass, it will certainly be a great post to read. Keep being optimistic Moonshine!!! I'm sure everybody is eager to read and learn. It's these types of experiences that bring us together as bass brothers and sisters.

Not a first- IIRC Conklin made a DN that could separate... off to do a little googleage...

That silhouette isn't bad at all, but it winds up being very close to some King and Ritter outlines, not sure if that could cause trouble or not.
