My dad had an ovation he played and sounded good so when I saw this one I hoped it would be as good. I really don't need it. I have an '67 ampeg SSB my dad bought new. I bought a Samick to just kick around.

I have no experience with the high end Ovation models, but I concur with others above - the budget-level Applause AE-40 should be avoided at all costs.

I just grabbed this '96 Ovation EBG68-CCB Viper Bass.

It's a shallow back, chambered body, center block with a Spruce top and what I understand is a great Piezo pickup system @ 8.53 lbs. (Allegedly expensive then.)

TI 344 AcoustiCore strings:

.089 - .068 - .053 - .041 nylon core - phosphor-bronze

It must be plugged in to operate correctly...it has a Turner Renaissance vibe, but a little bit less Medieval.

Changing the tuners to black Hipshot HB-6 Ultralight tuners with a Warwick style sweep back. Looking forward to some new tones and see what happens with the ol' pedalboard and a pick!

I'm sure everything is going to be just fine...

Ovation EBG-68 Viper Bass allegedly expensive then?

MSRP:

1994/95 = $2199

1996/97 = $2399

That is +/- $4500 in 2022

I expect that it is well made and sounds great, too.
