Ovation Magnum ...

G'day all,

Been a while since I posted here but since my Magnum II just got a conversion from II active to I style passive - has had a complete re-fret and the fret board planed due to rising tongue ( issues when I bought it years ago ) - I thought I would post some pics while she's all brand new again.

I've had this bass for some years now ... amazing sound, bridge pickup is like a 4001 Ric and the neck is unique to Ovation, major low end warmth. I got obsessed with wanting a Magnum having grown up on many British post punk bands who used them ... Magazine, PIL etc ... Jah Wobble is a very notable exponent of the Magnum I and one of my all time fave players.

Two of the control knobs are not correct, I have ordered the correct Ovation type witches hats to match the one volume knob you see there already. The middle pot is a blend for the pickups which I chose in preference over a toggle.

Anyway, here's the bass ...

I just played one of these for the first time the other day and was ABSOLUTELY blown away! I couldn't believe the glorious, sweet tone that was coming out of that bass.

Anyway, nice one....looks great!

I know this post is old, but I'm hoping someone will see this. I just got my 1979 Ovation Magnum II. I knew it was going to need some work (btw, I'm a bass novice, so go easy on me with your terminology...I'm still learning!) but I've wanted one of these for years, and I was finally able to score one for under $800. I was recommended that I should convert it to be more like a Magnum I. I love how your's turned out! I'm curious to know what your favorites strings to use are for this bass. My husband is a professional, touring musician, so we know some people who can help with the TLC mine is going to need. I really want it to sound heavy and loud, hahaha. Your's is absolutely beautiful!
