Overdrive/distortion

I was looking into possibly picking up an overdrive and or distortion pedal for the holidays. Does anyone have any recommendations for a clean, almost fuzzy overdrive? Any information would be great. Thanks,

check the FAQ theres alot of information there about different OD/Fuzz. My advice would be to check out as many as you can and see what sounds best to you.

EHX Big Muff?
MXR Blowtorch for not so clean, chainsaw, buzzy tone.
Stay away from Boss OD pedals.
Go test some out!

EDIT: according to wikipedia:

Part of Muse's distinctive sound is produced by Wolstenholme's use of distortion. Favouring the Electro Harmonix Big Muff distortion / sustainer, this was used alongside a BOSS Bass overdrive and other effects.

I just picked up an EBS ValveDrive and if you keep the gain way down, it does a nice warm overdrive.

My fault for not specifying. I read up on the sticky (should have done in the first place) and I now see that fuzzy means alot of distortion. I'm looking for more of a warm, clear overdrive/distortion. Thanks for the replies!

i just bought a Sansamp, and i REALLY REALLY like it. you can get a variety of sweet tones out of it. got it for a steal at the guitar center in overland park, kansas. let the guys know you're on tour and they will give you one dirt cheap!

Ibanez PL-5 powerlead distortion works well... and can be obtained cheap via ebay as ibanez doesn't make them anymore. Sure it's a guitar stompbox, but the sound is still good.

As for boss pedals... they're not bad... at least not the mt-2, but I haven't played around with mine much using my bass. I usually keep that one for use with my Warrior XT guitar, so not much fooling around has been done at all basswise (not to mention it takes a while to get a setup you like due to having to tinker with the 3-band eq).

+1 to the sansamp, even though its not really an overdrive.

+1 to the muff'n, which is cleaner than most i've heard. can swap tubes for even cleaner sound.

I have the Sansamp, which is pretty good. I also have and old Marshall Guv'nor, which is just about perfect. I usually have the Sansamp on with low drive on all the time, then add the Guv'nor (also with lower overdrive setting) to kick it to 11. Very warm, very gritty.
