overdrive/fuzz quest

with the exception of a few of them, i buy my enclosures pre-powder coated from pedal parts plus. i also get my footswitches, most of my knobs, and DC jacks from them too.

i get my electrical components from mouser, and my blank veroboards & hi temp, teflon coated silver plated wire from allelectronics.

to label them, i use a brother p-touch PT-2100 and use the software that came with it.

i finally got an enclosure for the prunes and custard today so i'm going to drill & mount it up tomorrow. i really dig that pedal.

i also built a wampler triple wreck yesterday. man, talk about gain and fuzz, this thing has a crazy amount of it. i'm going to mount that one into an enclosure tomorrow too.

got the 3wreck clone boxed up last night. this pedal is a bit 'over the top' as far as a fuzz/ distortion goes for bass, but it does have absolutely NO low end loss.

i had a chance to put the triple wreck thru it's paces at gig level today. man, this one sounds great (as in HUGE!). although it can do some lower overdriven sounds, where it shines is with heavy distortion, and i can't imagine any other pedal being as good at that as this one. so, if you're looking for a heavily mid to distorted bass fuzz, then the Triple Wreck is definitely one to consider. it not only doesn't lose any low end, but can actually increase it by a TON. it can also be bright, dark, extremely mid scooped or mid boosted. i'll try to post a soundclip of it tomorrow.

Cool...have to add that one to the list of builds. How did you make the cool 4580 adapter? Happen to have a few of those.

i took a 14 pin socket and two 8 pin sockets and made some jumpers for the pins to line up with the opamp inputs and outputs.

the ones on this side just lined up (with the 8 pin sockets back to back):

and on this side, i had to use jumpers:

here's a quick (5 minute) clip of the Triple Wreck. this is just some of its settings. i start out bypassed, then with the least amount of overdrive, then going into ridiculous amounts of distortion. surprisingly, even with tons of dirt, you can still make out the notes. i was also adjusting the eq on it as i went to try to show its scooped, dark and bright tones, but there's alot more than i can demonstrate in just a 5 minute clip.

BTW, to make it a little easier to have all in one place, i created a page that shows all of my cloned (& some of them modded for bass) pedals with a brief description of each one. most of them have soundclips, but they all will soon. it's a work in progress since there's so many of them but i should have it completed by next week. These pedals are NOT for sale (and i strongly recommend supporting the original creators of them), so the page is just a place where you can get a little more info on them and an idea of what they sound like.

You have done some amazing work. The true value of your hard work is incalculable.

Thank you.

My quest ended with the MXR BFD. Simple, and sounds great w/ that dry blend kno .

Tried some boutique, and just didnt care for the "look at me, im unique" tones I was getting.

IMO, maybe you just didn't try enough of them ;).
the Ecstasy, Timmy and Holy Fire don't have unique tones at all and are very transparent, they basically just add grit and drive to your existing bass tone.
