overdrive/fuzz quest

I replaced all three of the trim pots in the orange peel and it's a lot quieter (noise-wise) now and even though there's still a little hiss in the background it's nothing that you'd notice unless you had a cab with the tweeter cranked up (and I don't use tweeters ;)).

I also just completed and tested a Himmelstrutz Fetto pedal. I just need to mount it in an enclosure now. this one has a TON of ways that you can set it up with the internal 10P dip switch. here's a pic of the board:

Nice.

(I'm sure you know WAY more about this, but I'll ask anyway) Did you try a quick and dirty treble bleed / LPF small cap at the end to tame the hiss? Like you said, not a big deal for probably the target audience of this thing, but just a thought.

yep. the first part of the hiss/noise reduction mod that I did was to raise the value of three of the Jfets filtering caps to higher values. that helped quite a bit with the overall hiss, then replacing the trimmers to fixed resistors removed all of the noise (random pops and other hissy noises) that was left afterwards.

I just got my first fuzz pedal and it's a Fender Sublime. You should've seen the box it was shipped in. If the camera on my phone wasn't so fuzzy, I'd post a photo of it. Inside the bigger box it came in was it's actual fender box it sits in, the size of a shoebox ! Talk about over the top. Anyway, I got it to play the song Spread Your Love by BMRC and I like it. I'm new to using pedals and so far , so good !

Before a Part II, if you have time I would love for you to post a short list of your favorites including brief descriptions as to what you like them for :)

too late. part II has already started. ;)

I do have a brief description of each one on my website though. just go HERE.

i just finished the Timmy V2 clone and all i can say is that i now know what all the love for them is about. IMO, this is an incredible sounding OD/distortion pedal for bass (and of course with guitar). i immediately loved it the second i plugged it in. it's extremely versatile as to how many different types of OD/distortion/fuzz sounds & tones that you can get out it, and every single setting sounds awesome. it's super punchy, loses no low end (unless you want it to) and can go from clean, to a slight overdrive, to full blown fuzz.

Hi John,
I've been mucking around with a handful of different IC's, including the OPA2604. The OPA was my fave, but not by a lot.
Did you ever try different IC's on your Timmy/Johnny?
