Overdrive tone is mostly subjective. Everyone has their own version and their own flavor of pure tonal goodness. I'd say if you like the tone of the Ibanez Tube Screamer, go for it. I think it sounds better on tubes than not, but I have played through multiple drives and developed an ear for what I like personally, on my gear, with my playing style.
That could vary differently from yours or anyone elses.
My advice, go for what you think you like - and either be happy, or want to find something else. Chances are (if this is your first pedal purchase), that you will want to explore with more tones. This purchase will most likely not be the be all, end all of pedal purchases in your bass playing experience.
