Owen Biddle's 'clear' bass

Saw this the other day and hadn't seen him with it before. Usually he had the OB-6 in hand. I think this is a 5'er.


Anybody know anything about it?

yeah I saw that today too and was curious about it. Looks like an OBS5. First I thought it was a white finish but now that I see it closer it does look transparent. Thats pretty crazy.

Upon further review, yes it is. Gotta get that album.

On topic: That Callowhill is probably stupid heavy. It is cool looking though but every acrylic bodied bass I've ever picked up have been boat anchors.

It might be transparent aluminum.

That is one cool looking bass. Callowhill basses tend to catch my eye. Need money.

See thru plexiglas guitars were kind of popular in the late 70's. Nile Rogers from Chic had a Fender Strat with a clear body. I always found them kind of cheesy looking but they sounded fine.

Just got this email back from Mike at Callowhill:

Hi Matt,

It weighs less than a typical Fender 4 string, the OBS contouring, size, and eq route clocks it in at ten lbs, other OBS' have clocked in at just over 5 lbs. Tim carved it out of a solid block of acrylic, and added a fiber optic bay keyed into a Wittman tuner so it actually changes color but is only visible in dark venues. It has a (eleven?) piece neck of myrtle, wenge, and maple with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and a custom 28 fret neck that completes the pickup route. The headstock has a jigsaw acrylic "binding" that bolts into the headstock with visible screws, and the logo glows in the dark. Pretty strange.

Personally, I think it's a lot cooler than when I first saw it. To say that it's lighter than a typical fender and be acrylic, that had to take some engineering. Makes me want a Callowhill now more than ever!

They are amazing friend. I have two, and two more on order. Probably gonna order two more when those two are done I get constant compliments on the monster tones this things have. Just crazy.
