Owner's manuals

Many of us on TalkBass are guys and it's common knowledge that guys don't ask for directions!!!

Personally, I study them and ususally read through the manual before I go to the store to try out a new piece of gear. But, I scrutinize owner's manuals as part of my day job so it's just second nature for me (and poorly written user's manuals really annoy me!!!).

Yes, something on Sesame Street...simple stuff.

I was just noticing that a lot of questions and comments could easily be found in owners/users manuals.

Yes, I'm a guy and I read them. Except maybe for the toaster that I bought earlier this year.

I don't care if there is a paper manual. I expect gear makers to provide manuals online. If not, I don't buy the gear. I want to know what claims the manufacturer is making. Also, I have noticed that the online retailers often make a lot of mistakes in their own descriptions of products.

Sooo.., you won't be buying one of G-K's new MB combos any time soon? :hiding:

I use 2 Randall R-300 bass heads (one from 1973; the other from 1975) I purchased online, and never received manuals, probably due to their age and both being used heads. So, what the heck..... I use my 1979 Ford Pinto's Owners Manual instead, and I haven't looked back since. I mean....a manual's a manual....right?? Now....If I can just figure out how to check the fan belt on my 1969 Conrad hollowbody. Gezzzzz.....it's always something.

Remember....the wind is merely an ocean with no water.

from all the "can I run a 4 ohm speaker parallel with an 8 ohm speaker into an amp with a 2 ohm minimum" questions I've read, not enough people read their manuals... 2.67 ohms is more resistance than 2 ohms. ergo the answer is no.

No. At least there is a manual for the head:

Is the combo even on the market? All I can tell is that MF is taking pre-orders. Often, it takes a few months for gear makers to update their websites with the latest stuff, but at the same time, I tend not to be an "early adopter" anyway. I already have a lightweight rig, but if I was not, I would still wait for a manual to show up somewhere.

I wish more people on here would read the manuals prior to trying out and buying gear. Half the key to trying out gear in the stores is setting the tone controls to the "neutral settings" before playing it. There are so many people on here who try out an amp once, complain it is mid scooped and sounds terrible: mainly because they did not turn off the "Ultra Low" button. Or complain that an amp puts out too much low end even though the Bass knob is at 5, when the amp's flat setting for low end is the Bass knob at 2.

What bugs me more is people who ask where to find manuals for the gear they have. Some of those manuals are hard to find, but when people ask for manuals of current products.......did someone show them the greatness of Google?:eyebrow: Travel to the companies site and search for it! If you can't find it, call them or e-mail them. If you have time to post on talkbass, you have time to search for those manuals.....

Thanks for the link fdeck. I've had the MB2-500's manual for a while now, and have been trying to obtain the manual covering all three of G-K's new MB Combos to compare features, ratings, and BLOCK diagrams.

'Thing is, some of these new rigs are already in the hands of a few TB'ers (the MB210 is gigging well), and there is a manual being circulated by e-mail, but it's still not on G-K's web site:

BTW. I'll seize this opportunity to say thank you for writing your RTA program and making it freely available as a community service.

dannybuoy's use of of it in scoping out the Tech 21 VT Bass' response at different settings REALLY de-mystifies the VT's operation and enhances its plug 'n' playability. :)
