Congrats, Josh(and Dan)!!! I've never had the pleasure or opportunity to play one of Dan's basses, but I think you made a fantastic choice. Can't wait to see and hear your thoughts

I'll give a you a perfect example of "why" people pay for Fender clones. If you look a few posts above yours, the builder of Josh's soon-to-be new P is a part of this thread. If he has a question about his bass, he talks directly to the man building it. If he has an issue after purchase, he calls, emails or PM's Dan directly without having to talk to operator #57883b.
That goes for Dan too. He knows that Josh is a member of TB, so he can't exactly run and hide. He doesn't build even a fraction of the # that Fender produces, so customer service is first and foremost on his mind at all times... quality over quantity, not the other way around. I can guarantee you that he will not let a "lemon" get out the door.
No, i've never even spoken to Dan, but he's got a great rep in this small community that we call TB

The same can be said for Sadowsky, Lakland, Nordstrand, Nash, AC, and many other small builders.

If you truly don't get it, go play one, my friend

Leo's Dead..God Rest his soul..When he LEFT Fender..."REAL" Fenders were over.

Fender Makes Fender Copies, cuz they own the license to do so.

You WANT Fender on the headstock...well, that's a personal preference (or obsession).

You want a great Fender style instrument, well...plenty of amazing choices out there. I'd rather talk to builders...and what the Hell..Made In America is a good thing. I don't mind supporting that.

Some people want options Fender doesn't offer. Fender makes great stuff, but by nature of their factory business model they offer only a very limited set of options. You want a daphne blue J bass finished in nitro, with a Hipshot bridge, a binding & blocks neck, a 12" fretboard radius, Nordstrand pickups, and proper shielding? You gotta go custom.

So many players opt for a Sadowsky, Mike Lull, Bill Nash, Atkinson...whatever.

And if you think about it - any modern Fender is technically a "copy". Once CBS purchased Fender from Leo, everything has been a copy.

Dan doesn't mass produce basses. Go look at his site. He's been a bassist for a good 20 years so he knows what we want. He's not going to ship a bass that he wouldn't take on the road himself. Not to mention it will have Nordstrand pickups, making it that much better than a Fender.

I am so confident in Dan's work that I will take it to Long & McQuade when I get it and A/B it with every P-bass there. Just give me 8 weeks.
