IME: i almost think it would be easier to list the dogs: i've had one or two split-coil disappointments over the years (in PJs) but i have generally found that there are a bunch of great contenders. the dimarzio DP127 has been a pleasant surprise for me in a fretless P.

per the OP: i don't think there are any losers/dogs on your list! you'd probably have great results by flipping coins to make a decision! good luck with your choices! :thumbsup:

I have a Nordstrand in my 5 string P bass. It really does the old school P bass vibe VERY well, with slightly more "heft". It's neither muddy nor super beefy like a Duncan Quarter Pounder. It's simply perfect P bass with a tiny bit more girth.

I also have an EMG Geezer in my MIJ Fender P bass. The differences between the Geezer and the stock pickup were a bit more subtle. With that swap out, I gained more clarity. The stock pickup (E series mid 80s) was fine. The Geezer is better. With Chromes is simply sings in a recording.

The Nordy is my favorite for live all day long.

I have been intrigued by the Dimarzio for ages, one of these days im gonna just have to pull the trigger and buy the pickup

i'd describe it as "hot" --- at least it is in my P-bass. but it sure delivers. since i'm not a P-bass guy per se, i can only compare it to the various split coils in my PJs. i like it a lot! i hope you have good luck with it if you spring for a set! :thumbsup:

With a similar setup with wood from Warmoth, I have used the Antiquity II's, Lollar's as well as Arcane 65's. All are good with Arcane being my favorite by very small margin. Antiquity is quite warm and woolly, but for a so-called boutique sound, I would go with the Arcane and maybe with the Lollar. But all of the options you have listed are great. There has been some lengthy discussions on this subject matter, by the way, and there is some detailed information you can find by some search.

IMO, of your listed choices, Duncan Antiquity II.

IME, the 3 most popular P pickups here on TalkBass are the Fender Original P Bass Pickups , S. Duncan SPB-1 and the EMG Geezer.

(WOW! I just noticed that the price for the Fender Originals has jumped up about $30 recently! Making the SPB-1 the better buy.)

I have a 5 string MIA Passive Precision bass that I added a Seymour Duncan jazz pickup to in the vintage position. I’m not liking it as it disappears when blended with the Precision pickup and it’s very thin sounding when soloed. Has anyone added a Seymour Duncan musicman pickup in the bridge position on the prediction bass? Your comments are appreciated.
