P Diddy's Makin the Band.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned that P Diddy is clearly trying to emulate Kanye West's last record with the retro 80s/futuristic/Daft Punk vibe and attempting to sing with the aid of Auto-tune. So far I thought one of the songs were cool, but then he sang some corny lyric about Red Bull and I was like "next!" I watch the shows online and skip the scenes of Diddy in the studio.

I still think its a great show and will hopefully inspire some younger people to pick up instruments.

I don't think the violinist was in the wrong key because I didn't hear any harmony on the track.

Less P Diddy and more P Fluid!

If you compare an early Dr. Dre record to a George Clinton record that had an influence on it, then the Dre record is gonna seem lame. But Dre wasn't trying to make a George Clinton record - he was doing hip-hop. The music that Dre made wasn't lame, many would consider it to be classic. This all goes back to the very beginnings of hip-hop when a DJ would just loop the break from a funk record so the MC could rap over it. You wouldn't compare that music to the original funk recordings.

But what I meant by saying this debate is senseless is that the people that don't like the music aren't gonna be convinced that it is good, and the people that do like it aren't gonna be convinced that it's lame. This is all as subjective as you can get.

Like I said, it's not a debate. My POV is that the state of the music in this genre is pretty weak and this latest offering by Diddy is a testament to that. I offered up Kraftwerk as an example because they are a great example of catchy melodies amidst electronica which is the reason they were so popular and their tunes memorable across a wide spectrum of listeners. We need the old days where people adept at arranging and melody worked on cranking out tunes.

To me, Diddy's fusion of Hip Hop and Electronica is a bad example of both.

In my neck of the woods,it seems that ALL the youngsters are not interested at all in wanting to pick up an instrument and learn how to play.
All I'm sayin' is,it's just not like when I was growin' up,kids wanting to learn to play.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this. Most of the friends I had in middle and high school weren't interested in learning anything musically, and those that were interested mainly turned to rap and beatboxing (they were are insanely good at what they did, though).

I seriously don't see how race has anything to do with this. Musical stereotypes, maybe, but race?

Actually most of the time, the music changes for live settings. Ive heard alot of R&B tunes where the CD version had the bass playing two notes the whole song, and the live version was totally flipped. Not to mention, once they start touring, the band will have some limelight just from the show. This would be a hot gig, but to each his own. :)
