I've never been a huge Fender style bass fan but I stopped at a local shop yesterday that was having a 1/2 price sale and ended up walking out with a Squier Std. Precision w/ p-j pickups, black (semi) sparkle finish w/ white pickguard in practically new condition for $110.

Exactly, except perhaps with the J pickup in the 70's position and a white pearloid (or black) pickguard.
I haven't seen many with the J pup in the 70's slot, but here is one with a white pearl guard...

Hmmm... I always thought you could tell 70s by the bridge pup being even with the tone knob...
