P & J necks - changing help

I don't know much about this kind of thing. I have a Modulus VJ. I'd like to put the neck on a P body. Does anyone know if the holes line up? Do I need to get a certain type of body, i.e. Fender, Warmoth, etc.?

I've had this bass for 5 or 6 years and love it, but I want a new tone to play with. I really want a good P bass, but I love the Modulus neck, so I want to try this and see if it works. Thanks for the input.

Make sure the neck dimensions are the same or VERY close. Test fit the Modulus in the Fender pocket to be sure. Typically the holes do not line up well enough. The holes on the modulus will likely need to be filled and re drilled. You'll need a drill press or access to one to do it right. Here's an article on the process of installation:

Holes are usually drilled a bit oversized (to remove the threads in the wood) and filled by gluing in pieces of hardwood dowel (generally whatever the base wood is) and sanding flush with the neck surface. Be careful to check and mark the depth on your drill bit so as not to drill through the fretboard! Of course you'll need to set the instrument up afterward. Go for it if yer up to it, otherwise a pro can handle it fine.

Don't do this if your neck is graphite!!!!! Leave it up to a professional luthier who is familiar with graphite necks if the mounting holes in the neck need redrilling. Graphite is a completely different animal than wood.
