Actually, according to Fender, the C necks are 1.625" at the nut. But it's a minor difference than what you said.
Those are newer Fender C-necks.
Made after 1989.

The older C necks are 1.75.
The 1.75 necks come now own the fender ressiue P-basses.
The custom shop 58 and 59 Percisions.
And the 50's P-basses. MIM.

I think you're referring to what Fender calls the "modern 'C' shape," which describes the rear contour of the neck. Jazz basses have this too. When describing nut width, "B" refers to 1.625, and "C" to 1.75". I'm not sure Fender uses this terminology, which I suspect came about in 1973/4 when Fender changed the standard P-bass from 1.75" to 1.625".
