P with J neck, J with P neck, anybody?

I found an SX Precision online that has the perfect body to complete my latest project, and I'll be putting a Jazz neck on it since it's what I prefer and I plan on it being my main player (my band just landed a weekly paid bar gig, so I'll need the backup, I currently own one bass.)

Now, the neck that comes on it is maple, with white blocks and binding-here's a picture of the SX in question-

I think this bass would look perfect with my MIM rosewood J neck, and my current player would look awesome with the BnB maple. Here's the Jaz in question for reference-

Anybody ever do this? Anybody got a J with a P neck and visa-versa? Any opinions on the looks? How the necks will fit?

Both my basses are like this.
Ive got both a CV Jazz and CV P and ive swapped necks over.
I much prefer a Jazz sized neck so the P is my main bass, but for some reason i really like the P neck on my Jazz.

It's hit or miss whether SX necks will fit in Fender neck pockets. Fender necks usually fit fine or a little loose in SX neck pockets.

I just sold 2 SX basses with the swap you're talking about, a P with a J neck and a J with a P neck. It all depends what your left hand likes playing on. You can make the fit work.

Played a 1963 Jazz Body, with a 1962 P-neck for 10 years.
It was one of my all time favorites.

I have a fender jb special (p body j fretless neck). I love the jb fretless neck. I also dig the maple neck on your PB & have wondered the same--if good necks are a match on inexpensive bass bodies. If the bolt holes are an industry standard I may get myself into trouble.

anyone know if the bolt holes are a match in most cases?--cheap body, fender neck?

I have two Precision Bass Specials which are P bodies and J necks
I has a Buscanti Newport which is a Jazz body with a P neck.

I prefer a j neck most of the time

The original neck on my P bass was shot, so I put an Allparts J neck on it.

Yes, I want to do a P or PJ with a J neck. I was thinking of going SX myself because I do like a J neck that is a little heftier than the run of the mill Jazz.

For just looks I think your rosewood neck will look better on either of those bodies than the maple. And I love maple necks, I just think they look better or darker colored bodies like burgundy or black. But I like your plan, because a J neck on a P body is heaven.

It's all been done - but for my money, those basses both look better as they are than they would if you swap the necks.

If I remember what I have read over the years in Guitar Player and Bass Player correctly, Duck Dunn's favorite bass has a P body & a J neck.

I've a P/J I love except the neck AND it's gonna get Sheehanized with a mudbucker at the neck position.

That's right and that's why I have had 2 Lakland Duck Dunn's over the past few years.

I've been thumping away on my P(arts)-bass (P-body, J-neck) for a couple of years now. I think it's funny when somebody looks at the headstock and says "nice jazz bass". The first time I started to explain, but thought better of it immediately. I just say "thanks".

Of course Fender doesn't make it any less confusing with the Jazz Bass Special model, which is a P body, P/J pickups, and a Jazz neck. It's a Precision Special in every other variation except this one. Is it a Jazz bass? Fender wrote that on the headstock. But it's not a Jazz body by any means.
