P90x rant

Alright, first off, I'm glad people are able to find this and use it to get in shape and be happy about yourselves. That's awesome, a good start to motivation and you should be proud of the work you've put forth.

Now the rant. Honestly, 3 payments of 30 dollars plus 20 dollars shipping? You have to spend $140 dollars to learn about a work out routine and someone on the TV telling you to get up and work out? You could figure out a full calisthenics work out routine and schedule on the internet for free. Even if you pirate P90x, you could find this information out in like 5 minutes. It's not hard to do basic work outs and run or ride a bike for cardio. I find it astounding that we have to pay $140 to figure this out. It's like if we aren't told something by something we paid for, we just can't believe it.

Yep, saved my money and simply took the advice from the commercial. The guy said they use muscle confusion to build the muscle mass. Basically your doing different workouts constantly so your body doesn't adjust to a constant routine.

Ok, I'll weigh in here from the sucker side.
Not everyone is that self motivated to complete a full workout, and I'm one of those people. When working out by myself its real easy to cut the workout short if the phone rings, blow it off completely if there is something else to do etc. When working out I need someone to tell me what to do and how long to do it- I'm good with that. Some people are like that.
I'm approaching the age that my father died at, and after seeing my very overweight brother who is the age my dad died, I decided I needed to do something. Kicking young is not in my plan,I've got kids.
I'm 6 weeks into P90x. Its every_single_day for 90 days from 1 to 1 1/2 hours each. And for the first 3 weeks those workouts are painful. I'm not in bad shape nor am I grossly overweight. I've lost 16 lbs and can do a lot that I couldn't do when I started. Frankly, I consider the $150 to be no big deal- like anything else, if you can't afford it, don't do it. That would be 2 months gym membership around here, where you would be spending most of your time waiting for a bunch of chatting old ladies to get out of the way, or watching a bunch of poser gym rat employees flex in front of the mirrors. Around here the gyms are social clubs, and I have little need to be social at a gym.
Yeah, I know, its infomercial stuff. But it seems to work for me, and that's what I care about. Try the 90 minute yoga workout sometime. As for the $140, meh, I've forgotten about that long ago...

Did the OP mean 4 payments of $30?
His math does not add up!

Have to agree tho, it is a bit of a scam. Pick up a decent £10-£20 workout/gym textbook and figure out yourself what you want to do.

I dare say, if you waste that much cash you are probably more likely to keep going if you think you've sunk that much into it already :p

Sorry, I had ranted to my friend earlier and knew that it came out to be $140 but I put in the wrong numbers lol. [A $600.00 value for only 3 monthly payments of $39.95 (+$19.95 s&h)] That's from the site. So it's 3 payments of 40 dollars. (3x40)+20=140

Edit: I also feel like a gym membership can be a waste of money. Granted, the equipment is nice, all I'm saying is, you can work out for free with calisthenics. You don't have to pay anything to get in shape. I guess that's really what the whole rant is about.

Yes, you can work out for free with calisthenics, but that isn't everyone's goal. I like the equipment that is at the gym and I work out harder when I am at a gym. I can't motivate myself as well if I am at home. Plus, I am more motivated when I have paid the membership to actually use it. When I don't have money invested, I get lazier. For you the gym membership is a "waste of money", but for me, it is worth every cent.

I`d actually say take you $140 and search CL for a used dumbbell set + bench. It`s much easier to buy a used set, clean it up, and then search online for free exercise programs and workout routines.

This is easy to do to an extent. If you have space!

While I do go to the gym, I also have a commercial grade bench, olympic bar and bumper plates (it all stays in my parents garage these days). The problem is, I seriously doubt the floor in my flat would handle me chucking a hundred kilos about and I certainly dont think the folk downstairs would agree either!

They are fine to an extent, but completelly useless for what I want to do.

You can't do this:

with calisthenics :p
