PA cab as bass cab

Hey I recently ran across an old hammond condor pa cabinet for really cheap so i had to get it. It's got two 15" speakers and two tweeters. I have no idea what the wattage is but it is a powered pa cab. I originally used it for my keyboard and being from hammond, figured that's probably what it was meant for.

I also play bass and was wondering if I could use this as a cab if i get a bass head. With the two 15" speakers I thought it might work out alright as a bass cab.

Would I totally destory the hammond cab if I plugged a bass head in? or would it be alright? your thoughts would be much appreciated.

i used a 15 and a horn with a bass head and it actually sounded verynice!

It's a powered cab as in it already has an amp in it? Can't you plug your bass or a preamp into it much like you did the keyboard?

Yeah I've used a pre before and it sounded alright, not great... Just wondering if an amp head would be alright. With my limited knowledge of how electronics work, I figured an amp head wouldn't be good, just seeing if anyone had any alternative ideas.

If you plug the speaker out of an amp head into a powered cabinet, you're sending WAY too much voltage into the cabinet.

If you have a bass amp that you want to use, use the Effects Send or Preamp Out into the powered cabinet.

Or you can rewire the cabinet to bypass the built-in amplifier.

Just making sure I'm getting this right... So say i have an amp head that I really dig, you're saying I could do something like: bass>amp head>preamp>powered cab?

Or did you just mean bass>preamp>powered cab?

If you put a speaker cable from the Speaker Out jack of an amplifier into anything other than an unpowered cabinet, you will fry it.

If you like your amp head, and you want to go into your Powered Hammond cabinet, you can either connect the two by a cable from your Effects Send or Preamp Out (which are un-powered signal sends) into your Powered Cabinet OR you can rewire the Powered Cabinet to bypass the internal amplifier (making it an un-powered cabinet), THEN you can power it by your Amp Head Speaker Out jack.
