I'm pretty dumb when it comes to PA stuff but I've been doing some research. I am trying to put together a PA system so my band can start playing out. I just traded my old bass combo amp for a set of PV115's. The guy put Black Widows in them. They are the 1505's.
Here's my question. Is the internal volume of the pv115 enough for the black widow? I can't seem to find the internal voume for the cab anywhere.
Also, Does anybody have a suggestion for an amp to run these? Should I daisy chain them and run the amp mono or hook them up separate and run the amp in stereo?

Okay, it is an 8 ohm driver and they're already installed so make the best of it. IOW, don't drop any more dough into them if you don't have to. With a little thought and judicious EQ'ing, I'm sure they'll sound decent enough for the project at hand.

Power amps / watts be cheap. What's your budget? With the advent of newer technology w/ competitive pricing, the older lead sleds can be had in the $100-150 range...I'd be hard-pressed to spend more. I'd aim for what I term a "1400" amp: one capable of kicking 1400 watts in bridged mono / 4 ohm. This would include the QSC RMX 1450 and Mackie 1400i amongst others. If you can find something with more power at the same price, snag it. If you can spare $400-500, there's plenty of new gear available that will fit the bill. Check out QSC and Crown (Drivecore). I run my PA rig in bridged mono and daisy-chain the mains.

So, should I run a rack eq or do you think we can get a good eq from the board?
As far as amps go, I have a crown xls1000 that I run for my bass amp and I really like it. That's 1100 watts bridged/mono at 4 ohms. That should be close right? I read somewhere they said to get an amp that does 65-85% or the program rating of the speaker. The black widow is 700 program plus maybe 50 watts to the horn.. So that should be about right.

In some instances...and when short of gear...I've gotten good results with the mic channels 3 band EQ (semi-para mids). A decent rackmount EQ can be had for under $50 if you keep your eyes peeled. I use a dbx DriveRack but keep a Peavey GEQ in the main insert...just in case. Kind of like wearing a belt and suspenders.

The Crown xls1000 should be fine. I'm using a Drivecore 2500 for the mains and 1500 for the subs. They don't even break a sweat. Sounds like you're 99% there!
