Last night I was practicing, using my '95 "black label" Fender Jazz Bass.
Suddenly, I heard "PING!"
A piece of the nut, on the edge, next to the G string, had flown off, and the string was now running along the side of the neck.
This was a first for me, and I've been playing for 56 years.
It's painful because this bass has recently been rediscovered and reborn since I switched from round wounds to Chromes, and it's my number one for certain situations. I was eagerly anticipating bringing it to a rehearsal tomorrow night and a gig next Sunday.
Luckily, I know an expert who can repair it and do a great job.
Sigh.
