I was using my fingers, and I have a fairly light touch. I guess there was a weak spot in the nut, and after 31 years it gave in.Were you diggin in with a pick? Or was it just out of blue?...

Yes. The G went from 45 to 50.So you switched to flats from rounds? By chance did the string gauge change? Just curious if the nut wasn't happy about the string change.
Oh boy, if that's all the 1st post in this thread said...I was using my fingers, and I have a fairly light touch. I guess there was a weak spot in the nut, and after 31 years it gave in.

Maybe the smartest of musicians!
Had this guy tell me other day, difference between men and boys, a man can figure things out! (I wonder if I’ll get a warning from TB for saying that)I just pulled a couple of matches and measured... they're a bit small when compared to a stock Fender nut. I could make it work with a little thought and cocktail-napkin engineering.

... this bass has recently been rediscovered and reborn ...
Thought you were going to tag me on the "cocktail napkin" reference....it's a real thing and existed long before the advent of the internet and AI. Since we're tumbling down the rabbit hole, look-up the Catholic priests who concocted the "sweet-swat" which is essentially a fool-proof method for killing a fly with bare hands.Had this guy tell me other day, difference between men and boys, a man can figure things out! No, he forgot to remove the match head, and later started the Great Chicago Fire while playing a particularly hot lick.Maybe the smartest of musicians!
