Painting a 2 year old's room..

I'm moving in a month and I have the opportunity to paint my daughters future room any way I like. I was thinking just pastel pink, because she's quite obsessed with pink.. but then I was thinking I could do like a sky and clouds and flowers and stuff.. and then I was thinking, well she likes purple too.. and I dunno what to do. She'd be happy with anything but I want it to make her excited when she sees it. ^_^
I'm excited about this. So, who votes for what?
I'm not a bad artist so I can do cartoon stuff as well. Is there sparkly paint for walls? Hm.. i'm thinking too much again.. Anyway.. Ideas? Suggestions?

Know that kid's book "Where the Wild Things Are"? (the book, not the awful movie) I would have loved to paint my kid's walls in that fashion - kind of storybook forest, a light blue sky with some clouds, bright yellow sun in the corner... but alas, my wife doesn't share my tacky sense of taste.


here, picture this forest without the monsters, I think that would be an amazing thing for a kid. (granted, whoever would paint this would have to be really good at it):

I LOVED that book when I was little. Though, I don't remember how it looks to be honest. I'll have to look into it.

I'm going to say paint it something easy. She'll probably change her mind a lot. That and especially if it's a rental, you'll probably have to paint back over it. That being said, you can do some awesome stuff with the nifty little painting tools they have these days. Go to your local paint supplier / hardware store and get some ideas.

As the father of two growing girls, I can tell you that their color/decoration preferences will change...FREQUENTLY. I suggest sticking with something fairly neutral or muted on the wall. Target - and probably Wal-Mart - carries big decorating decals that can be put up on the walls easily to create lots of different styles.

I agree. Walls are meant to be covered in posters and stuff, and not to be flashy in themselves. But that's just my opinion. If you want to make something special out of it, that's cool. But don't be suprised if you are met with the demand of a repaint in years counted a dozen 5 times minus half a century.

Another option (which is exactly what I'll be doing with my 6-year-old girl's room this weekend) is to paint just one or two walls of the room a color, and leave the rest white. Not only does it bring a nice contrast and splash of color to the room, but cuts your materials and labor way down, and there's less to cover over when her preferences change next week.

Don't forget:

Handprints somewhere, possibly on a poster, to have for later.

Glow in the dark stars stuck on the ceiling. 18 y/o daughter still has them & likes them.

Just do it because if you blink a few times she'll be walking across a stage at an auditorium to get a diploma....ENJOY HER NOW and always!!!

On a funny side note and totally unrelated to the topic (sorry Mika...:)) The wife and I looked at a potential new house this weekend that had contrasting lime green and orange walls in the bedrooms. My retinas are still sizzling. Your post just reminded me of that. Ok, carry on.
