painting luthite

i have an ibanez EDB690 ergodyne. they stopped making them as of 2006. i find its a gem in my collection and i want to repaint it.
the crappy "wood grain" design they put on it is entirely rubbed off in some sections and underneath is orange.
that being said my questions are:

what types of paints should i use on this luthite body?
and
what are some special procedures, instructions, preparations i need to take since ive never painted a guitar before.

Plastiprep primer, then paint with whatever pretty much. Might want to stay away from anything thats to caustic though.

so basically any plastic primer will do? like somethin they would sell at a hobby shop? so am i looking for a plastic paint or really any paint...im just worried if i go buy it and then i try to paint it and it doesnt stick.

The stuff Ive used was called plastiprep or plasticote if I remember right. We used it in autobody repair a lot. Once thats on there, doesnt matter to much what we used over it.
