Pairing Mesa Walkabout w Bergantino 212

I'm really certain that I'm getting either a HD212 or a CN212. I was wondering how the Walkabout sounds with these 2. I like warm tube tone with thick mids.

I play warwick basses... In particular, a FNA corvette.

I don't own the combo, but another bass player in town is using a Walkabout and CN212 and it sounds fantastic. No surprise here, but it is sweet.

I had a Walkabout with an HD212 and it was awesome. I eventually moved on because I needed that PBass/Ampeg tube tone for the stuff I do (while the Mesa is tube-like, there's nothing like the warm thick mids of a full tube amp). But it was a great little set-up. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have gone with the CN212 just for the weight savings.

IME, yes! I haven't tried the M6, so tough to compare. I played mine in more of a moderately loud modern rock setting and it was perfect.

I used my Walkabout with a couple of Berg AE112s and still sometimes user it with a Berg NV412. Sounds great. The Bergs let the Walkabout tubey tone shine.
Whether it'll be loud enough to cut thru depends on yr band's volume. But the WA has great eq and Berg cabs are all quality. ....

I ran a Walkabout through my CN212 a few times in a rock band and was always very happy.

yes, yes and yes! Walkabout and CN212 is a great combination. I gig with it about 80% of the time these days and it just sounds great and gets compliments all the time.

Walkabout EQ is very flexible, CN212 with adjustable tweeter also very flexible. Combination can be old school low mid thumpy, growls when WA gain is pushed, slaps just fine (more Larry Grahm than Marcus Miller), pick style rock, smooth swingin' and bop ... pretty much covers it all just fine IME/IMO.


I have the WA in a Mesa headcase now, and while it does nothing for the sound quality, it does look pretty good sitting on top of the CN212.

Thank you all for the comments. I'm convinced I must get this rig.

I paired my Walkabout with Genz Benz Uber 410 and it just didn't put out a great sound... to me... Maybe thats where the 212 would prove vital.

Well, I can tell you my Walkabout atop the GB Uber 212 is a thing of beauty. Been using this pair for over 6 yrs, and haven't felt the need to improve my tone ever since. I think your plan is a winner.

I think the key thing for the WA in a louder band setting (like "hard rock") will be more drivers, and a more efficient driver/cab combination.

In terms of volume, I had to push it to keep up (again in a moderately loud rock setting). I very much prefer playing through bigger cabs in general - and especially with that head

I love my WalkAbout with both my HD212 and the CN212. Different tonal profiles with each pairing, as noted above. As far as volume is concerned, I do find this to be loud enough for a hard rock gig, but just barely. There's not a ton of clean headroom if you need to compete with a loud drummer and correspondingly loud guitars.

I've been gigging exclusively with my Walkabout and HD212 for about 6 months. Coincidentally, I bought a M6 as a backup for larger gigs because a lot of people on this forum mentioned the lack volume being an issue with these heads. So far, I haven't needed the M6 and that includes an outdoor show that I did last night. I play in larger clubs in Tahoe and Reno. These are shows with FOH, though. We have two guitars and fiddle player in the group and we play a lot of new country with some songs that remind me of hard rock. Not quite as balls out, of course, but close. We all need to hear everything on stage, especially vocals, so I have to say that the guitarists don't drown anyone out onstage.

That being said, if everyone in your group is balls out loud I don't know if this rig would work. If your guitarists and drummer are into playing at appropriate volumes then you have no worries.

This is an amazing rig. It has a huge sound and I'm totally happy. I play active 5 strings, btw.

I just picked up a HD212 locally from another TB'er a couple days ago. Ultimately I want to pair it with the Berg B|amp I have on order at a local music store, but in the interim, I took my Walkabout amp out of my WA combo. It certainly does move alot of air compared to the walkabout cab, but I would have to to agree with previous post regarding headroom. Overall though, I think it is a great pairing!

played quite a few large rooms and outdoor shows AND about to head down to florida to play Gulf Coast Jam with walkabout and cn212.

i play with many different guitarist and play many different styles.
also play guitar myself.
this combo is (to me) more than enough volume!!

can't imagine needing more!!

I've been practicing in a three piece "hard rock" group with the Walkabout and a single Audio Kinesis Hathor 1203 - not enough juice from the WA or a combination of not enough cabinet load and amp considering The single 1203 and the Walkabout.

The 212 Berg would be an improvement in overall output.
