Double Bass Palatino Megathread part I

mine sounds best w/ one length of inner tube under Piezo, one on top, & one more under treble side of bridge!

Has anybody here had trouble with the top of the bridge slowly working its way forward until it catches you off guard and flips plumb out while you're playing it?

Not while I was playing it, but the stock bridge did seem rather unsteady to me. My new bridge was a little oversized and it fits very snuggly into the piezo rectangle thing, so I really have no fear of it falling over. Speaking of bridges, today I was outside working on one of my projects when I had this idea about getting the plexiglass I used smooth (something I could never truly do no matter how much sanding I did). What if I used a torch to melt the face of the bridge flat? Well, I tried it out on a few things and it works! Despite the poor angles/focus on the new shots here are pictures.

It is now finally transparent again! I feel proud (and it feels smooth).

It's a cool looking bridge! Doesn't look like it would tend to turn over.

I've sent a PM to the both of you, so check your inboxes. I have one cut out from the last time I was working on bridges, it still needs to be ground down and finished though. How high is the action on everyone's Palatino (out of curiosity)? At the end of my fingerboard, the G is 9.5 mm high and the E (C for me) is 6.4 mm high with just about the same string spacing and curve as the stock bridge.

I have my string spacing at 1 1/32 of an inch or 26mm which is the spacing on my acoustic basses. My string height is 11/32of an inch or 7.4mm again the height of my other basses.

Most of us have noted the guy selling a batch of cosmetically blemmed Ve's on Ebay in the last week or so. Has anyone gotten one of these yet.

I saw another guy selling one with the cosmetic problem and a hump or warp in the fingerboard. This may be a caveat emptor situation to watch out for.

We gotta look out for each other lllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hey, so i just did the "pulley" tailpeice mod. Every think went really well and it was pretty easy. I will be posting pictures pretty soon. I am thinking about painting the parts black to look nicer with the AR (it is a very handsome instrument [sarcasm]). Any Idea(s) on what sort of paint I should use to do this? I was just going to mask off the body and use black spray paint with a high gloss.

Hey Y'all!

I'm an electric bassist, and we recently took a little road trip from Detroit, down to Nashville, to play a GAWD-AWFUL party in the middle of a field. We're talkig about traveling 549 miles each way, to play to 27 drunks! And even though they were drunk, they could tell how BADLY we were playing. But, the high point was I met a TBer named Matt, from North Carolina. He was telling me about these Palatino SE-500 EUB's. Well, I have been intrigued enough to start saving up for one! And if anyone knows Matt, tell him I said Hi, Thanks, and SAUCE SAUCE SAUCE!!!

This s the only stand I use for all of my basses. The legs that support the lower bout are adjustable so you can put it on the stand without retracting the end pin. If you do play outside be careful not to sit the stan on an angle that tips it back, it will topply over. I made some extensions for mine to use it outside.

I set mine leaning against the wall in a corner with the endpin retracted. Far too cheap for a stand XP. I have been meaning on working with some PVC to make a stand eventually.

Only fault I have to that stand (I have 2 of the stands) is the bass slides forward a little and slides the rubber up and off the end.

I agree but it was the only stand I could find that let me leave the end pin out the where it needed to be set.
To solve the problem of the movement I put some super glue on both ends.
