Double Bass Palatino VE-500

My (5 string, High C, floating top Bug) Azola has a pickup in each wing slot--- I only use the high side pick up when bowing, otherwise the single pickup is very even for pizz.

I think the instrument quality and build, even on a EUB come into play, that's why I opted for the floating top option.
When I was shopping for an EUB 15 years ago, the quality of sound of the different brands were reflected in the build quality (and price).

I recently purchased a used NS CR5M that is excellent for pizz and arco--- but very dependent on string choice..

My suggestion---- check out some better instruments.
I understand what your saying about having a floating top makes a difference but you also end up paying 4 times the price for such an instrument. Being I already spent the money for the Palatino which in the end is not a bad instrument at all. And yes most of the gear on the bass is crappy but with a few not so expensive modifications the instrument keeps sounding better and better. Just to make myself clear I don't totally hate the Palatino since I've got it set up in such a way that it plays fairly well. I'm only trying to find the best way to amplify it with a pickup that will give me the closest acoustic sound available out there.

You've got that backwards. The pickup is decent, and the stock wiring is rubbish.

Did you look at anything in the link I provided earlier?

Try this one.
Cool !!! So I'll give that a try too. Got nothing to loose since trying to get an EUB to sound as close as possible to a regular DB is not written in books so far even on the most expensive ones except maybe the ones with a sound chamber but then again they cost about $5000 which is out of the question unless I can get a sponsor who will give me a great deal. I already have a $25,000 Double Bass
Thanks

I was mostly responding to the lack of even level/sound, string to string. IMO, that is more of a function of the instrument than the electronics.
Good luck with your quest.

I brought the bridge to my luthier and everything is fine . It fits perfectly on the top of the bass with no gaps

did you remove the black bridge holder? in other words, is your replacement bridge sitting directly on the bass body? please send a pic. i've replaced my bridge with the eminence and placed it directly on the body. haven't installed the pickup yet.

Hi !!!! yes I removed the black bridge holder and installed the new eminence bridge on the body. I'm using the Realist pickup and since installing the Realist the way it should be, I was having trouble getting equal volume across all the strings and especially my G string. So after days of experimenting one day I decided to install the Realist sliding it in at the front of bridge foot instead of the usual way which is from the back side of the bridge and for some reason I got better distribution of volume. Maybe one of the contacts on the Realist is stronger output. In any case it seems to work better now. Good luck with yours. Cheers
