Pants optional

I have a pot load of ball caps. Used to get one when ever we'd go on vacation (in the US, at least.) they're piled up all over my dresser, closet, basement, garage, everywhere, but I cannot bring myself to get rid of them.

I usually run with 3 or 4 at a time. When they wear out I throw one away and put another in rotation. A few I got from places like Fenway or Daytona get tucked into one corner of the hat shelf worn out or not. Oddly enough some of the best fitting caps I own come from a college I never attended. My wife's grandfather was such a big donor they have a day of celebration for him every year during a football game. We go up into the president's box for the game and a catered meal and college officials are there handing out shirts and caps to the family members and other invited guests. It's a snooty way to see a football game for a team I care nothing about. I wear the hats all the time though. People stop me and say "Hey I went to school there. What year did you graduate?" I simply say "All I did was marry Big Jim's granddaughter." (Fake name for privacy.) the immediately know who I'm talking about and assume I'm filthy rich. Honestly, he was a good man though.

Still. Great hats.:D

I have a Cleveland Indians ball cap that my late father-in-law gave me. It is only one of two fitted ball caps that I own and it is the only one made of wool. It has a couple of small moth holes in it. I treasure that cap and will never part with it, despite the increasingly frowned upon depiction of Chief Wahoo on it.
Coincidentally, the other fitted ball cap I have is from my home-town AAA affiliate of the Indians, the Columbus Clippers. It doesn't have the sentimental value of my Tribe cap, but it's pretty cool.

I follow this rule for most things especially clothes: if I don't wear/use it for more than 6-months then I dispose of it.

But there are exceptions to this rule: suits, dress shoes, tools, movies, etc. I am known to purge but yet to regret the things I dispose of; in fact I only regret spending money on obtaining those items.

Got rid of my last suit several years ago. Went on a clean out binge on Saturday, got rid of all my ties except two. One is a Jerry Garcia tie, I will probably never wear it but my wife gave it to me and I like it.
Got rid of most of my greasy, paint covered, holey jeans as well. I only need two pairs of old jeans for dirty work. Also got rid of lots of XL shirts and Sweaters, they are too big for me now.
Took a very large box of clothes to the Salvation Army.

Taking @two fingers cue, I started looking through my collection of black jackets. I have a lot, fleece, microfill, parka, bomber, wool, leather....

The leather jacket will be the first to go. Haven't worn it in years and I really can't pull that off anymore.

We get rid of stuff fairly regularly. I have a suit because I have to wear one every so often, and a couple sport coats I wear to church. Other than that, it's just what I wear every day. I have sweatshirts for a while. Then my wife takes them after they are "broken in." So, I never have a surplus of those, and even if I did, it wouldn't last very long. She wears three or four of them at a time in the winter.

I not only can't pull the look off anymore, I can't even pull my leather jackets on any more. :(

Am I the only person left in the universe that likes wearing a suit and tie?
I wouldn't mind wearing a suit and tie occasionally if I got back into decent enough shape to look good in one. It'll be a while. :(

But I absolutely hate having to wear them for regular things like work - if my company suddenly went back to the old dress code, I think I would just retire...

I dressed that way for years. It was my "uniform" at work until I retired a few months ago. My wife liked buying shirts and ties for me. I have about 100 ties to get rid of, although I wIll keep a few of my favorites.
On a side note, I was in Ft. Worth over the Christmas weekend. I would have given you a shout, but it was too hectic. Perhaps I will get to hear you play next time I am up that way.

Great, let me know.

I actually do, I just don't like the restricted movement when I conduct. I got to the point where I would just take the jacket off by 2nd period and leave it off. I actually look good in a suit and tie, rocking a vintage fedora (at least my wife says so). I've tried a larger size and athletic cut, but they don't hang on me right. My tux on the other hand fits me perfectly. However, it was a custom job and I don't want to spend that much getting suits made to fit right. That's gear money. :)
