Parallel speakers and AMP output watts

Dear BassHeads,

I have a "simple" question regarding how parallel speaker cabs effect the effective output of the AMP...

THE SET-UP :

Ashdown Studio Mini Rig 180W Head. (at 4ohm)

Sounds great into single 2x10 at 4ohm RMS 250W.

THE QUESTION

What will the power output to EACH CAB be when I connect TWO 300W 8ohm cabs in parallel. (4ohm equivalence)

If you connect two 8 ohm cabs to an amp rated 180W at 4 ohm, each cab gets 50% of the power, 90W

Their no such thing as a underpowered cab, as long as it's loud enough, the max power handling of a cab is an upper limit — you shouldn't exceed it, but it perfectly fine to send only 90W to a cab rated 300W, it happens very often with tube amps to drive cab rated much higher than them.

Thanks for you reply this is just what I needed to know,

In fact my plan is to have a second 500W AMP head to really drive the bigger cabs. That way I'll have the choice for bigger / smaller live stages.

... the reason I'm kinda dumb with this stuff is that I used that Acoustic 220 Head (bio pic) for 30 years and never even thought about stuff like this, simply because that thing was solid as a rock , never went wrong and ran any speaker(s) I plugged into it ... so finally I know a bit more electronics (also not my strong point ... )
