Paranoid - Black Sabbath

My first thought was to shift between the 5th and 7th fret.

To speed up the shift, I tried reaching the target root with the index finger while holding the octave with the pinky. Previously, I was shifting the whole hand while holding the fingers steady in position.

(1) The guitar doesn't play everything on the E string in Paranoid; (2) the guitar isn't playing the octave Ds and Es he is asking about; and (3) depending on how many frets his bass has, it would be extremely impractical or impossible to play that figure on the E string.

The guitar playing all the powerchords on the E string starting in the 12th position with the first chord. See in the video below. The bass could do that easily too but Geezer is playing the E on the 7th fret and d on the 5th.
