Paranormal Activity

Downloaded it and watched it today. It was MEH at best. Not very scary, there were some scenes that were a bit suspenseful but nothing novel or interesting. The movie was generally repetitive and frankly boring. As matticus stated, the only thing i am impressed about its a budget of 15k that grossed 30million. good for them. I would recomend saving your time for a real shocker like martyrs ;)

*Borderline spoilers*

I got ahold of the version with the alternate ending. Pretty interesting way to end it, but i don't really know if I like it better than the theatrical version. I think the theater version was more shocking but a bit hollywood-esque, but the alternate version was a bit more eerie, disturbing and realistic.

Ok, which is the alternate, im not sure which i saw. The one that I saw is NOT the same as the wiki ending. I never saw the actual murder happen.

(highlight to read)

The theatrical is where she screams downstairs, he runs down, you hear him screaming too, then it waits a little bit. You hear footsteps, she throws him into the camera, checks his pulse then looks at the camera all creepy and smiles.

The alternate is when she comes back upstairs with the knife, sits beside the bed for a few days rocking back and forth, her friends come, call the police and then the police shoot her when she comes at them with the knife.

It was ok. Some decent suspense moments, but overall I thought a lot of the jokes in the movie were more entertaining than the scares. A lot of it was predictable and the fact that almost everything happens when they are in the bedroom doesn't help with the scare factor.

Of course there were a lot of horror movie nubs at the theatre so they were screaming at every little thing that happened, which eventually got annoying. Really, you are going to shriek at the top of your lungs when a door slightly opens? I love horror movies, but some times the audiences in theatres ruin the experience for me. For example, seeing The Strangers was ok in the theatre. When I watched it at home, alone at night in the dark...that definitely added to the scare factor and was a far more enjoyable experience ;)

This movie would not be scary if you didn't see it in a theatre IMO. I think this goes for a lot of horror movies, at least to me. MUCH better on a ginormous screen, huge speakers, and all the lights off.

I really enjoyed it, and tried to freak myself out to make the most of it. Problem is though that there were a lot of "I'm not scared of anything!" people who would laugh at parts, which really killed the mood. The ending was pretty lame IMO, and they show him flying into the camera in the commercials so I knew that was coming at some point. Overall, good flick with some creepy scenes. If you put yourself into the movie and imagine it happening to you, its scary as ****. I had a little trouble falling asleep that night...

I thought the movie was terrible. It was produced for less than $15,000 and it shows. The entire movie took place in the same house, there was a total of like four characters. It was slow, borring and far from scary. I can not believe the hype that this movie is recieving. The ending was dry, bland and had no twist.
