Parents...

well I'm 16 and have faced some of the struggles of parents (well who hasn't) but since I'm a bass player I guess it's more applicable.


Obey them overall. Period. Try to logically explain it. Ever since I started gigging/getting paid to play/taking bass very seriously my parents take me more seriously. If bass was just a random hobby they wouldn't let me do something they think I'd mess up.

Treat them with respect and you'll go much farther, don't drag the issue out too far, and try to ask the parent who is more likely to be understanding (IE My mom is a fiddle player, so she understands that I want to do some things musically.)

Most of all, just show them you can be adult like, whether you get to defret or not defret:)

Alright well I guess I'll keep trying then I mean my parents know how serious I am about bass and they know I'm not stupid they just have the mindset if things aren't broken don't change it. I mean I gig and make money too but this they just won't budge.
