Regarding crossovers: a lot of two-way cab and manufacturers seem to play fast and loose with their crossover designs. After all, there's going to be a big gap in polar frequency response between woofer and tweeter in such a design anyway. So why not shave a few bucks (and some R&D time) and just supply one crossover design to both 4- and 8-ohm versions?

This is why I really like my Tri-110s. I've tried several 2-way designs and always turned down or disconnected the tweeter. I have not had this problem with the Tri-110. It all comes down to a good crossover design.

Yep. A real plus in the Accugroove designs is something to fill that frequency gap that also has decent polar response. And for many ears, those tweeters are nicer too, giving closer to flat response relative to the mids and low end, instead of being so sizzly hyped and remote by contrast, like what's found in the typical two-way.

dont AG's run a high pass on the mids and tweets and run the woofer full range?

I hesitate to post anything remotely questioning AG stuff in light of recent megathreads, but I thought I recalled reading that on TB.

Yeah, they do. But it still fills in the midrange and polar response and blends into the high course more smoothly than almost any two-way is capable of.
