I know there's probably a thread about this somewhere but I wasn't finding it with the search function :/
Anyway - this summer I'm taking my Brice Defiant 5 to a luthier to have some work done on it - basically just beefing it up. Love the body and neck on it more than any bass I've ever had, and the tone is pretty good too.
Want to get a brass nut installed, fret level, and want to get some higher quality pups put in - but most of the humbucker pups I'm finding for a 5 string are active, and the Brice Defiant is a passive bass (which I prefer).
Can anyone recommend a few brands of passive humbuckers? Looking for a more classic tone from them rather than super punchy and aggressive, like one would get from most of the active "made for metal" basses - ironic since I'm playing for a death n' roll band, but the really aggressive tone doesn't fit in the mix as well for us. Since this is my go-to bass it's going to need some upgrades for when we sit down and do some serious recording.
