PastFx PX-101 Lowpass Filter (Moogerfooger MF-101 Clone)

I got mine yesterday, gave it a quick whirl to make sure everything worked. Sounds very good, and was very easy to dial in. I just sent my Barbanera back to Italy to be repaired, so I can’t do a direct comparison. The Barbanera felt a little harder to dial in, maybe that’s just the control layout. I look forward to comparing them at some point. One thing I liked about the Barbanera was the LFO waveforms. Great for synthy loop sounds.

The mail contact was super nice and they sent it out with DHL express, which was pretty darn fast!

Mate, same lol! I've been eyeing that Moogerfooger for ages now, almost ready to purchase today. No idea how I came about this pedal suddenly, but knew I had to try it for myself. Can't wait! Seems to fit in right between my Micro-Tron IV and Agent00 Funk.

It has been a while since I sold my Moog. But PastFX addressed those things that made me sell it:
-Small enclosure opposed to the behemoth that is the MF-101
-No wooden sidewalls that look nice, but won't shield
-True bypass
-A master volume that allows for the drive knob to be set wherever you desire, but still output at unity
-9V center negative power requirements

I think that the Moog is the most easily dialed in envelope pedal out there.
Both the Mu-Tron and the Agent 00Funk are pedals where a mere touching of the wrong knob can send it from nice and juicy envelope to an onslaught of sonic miasma in case of the Mu-Tron and a wet fart in case of the 00Funk.
The Moog, and the PastFX are way more chill in that regard and give you lots of wriggle room.

I only had a few minutes to play it since it arrived, but here's my very early findings:
Playing the pedal in the clean signal chain, just bass into the 101 and then Broughton Studio One, LowRider and LA-1A gave me a funky quack. Lots of quack. I played a bass with flats that have been on there nearly four years, so one could call them well worn in. Not much treble content - but still quack, and a funky one.
Creating a simple synth chain by running bass into Audio Kitchen Fake Plastic Trees (roots 3/4 up, branch maxed out, gain 3/4 up) into Fuzzrocious BDPG into the 101 gave me a sound that reminds me of what happens to your ears when you attach a gentle chainsaw to a velvet sledgehammer. All analog, no octave. Yet, a punch down low that hits your chest, and the filter getting you that mmmmwhop.

I do think the resonance works slightly different to the Moog I had, but lacking a way to A/B it, I cannot say for sure.

Given the AUD to USD ratio right now, this is a no-brainer. I've never tired a Moog before, but my brother has one and he loves it, plus it comes with the highest recommendation :-) Ordered!

It's been too long since I've heard the original so I can't comment on how similar it is. I do own a Moog Grandmother and Sub 37 and I would say the PX101 does have that moog flavour.

Same! Too busy to truly test it, but initial thoughts are very good and as expected! Case candy (literally) was a nice bonus as well :) Gonna do a proper demo vid when I get the chance.
