Patch cables!

Hey all! This is my first post :) I've lurked around a bit but never signed up until now (too much talk to resist!)

anyways, i was having issues with my setup and found a good portion of my sound issues were coming from my cable i was using. i swapped it out with my friend's Monster cable. i know moster cables are a huge ripoff. what are some good gig cables (about 15-20 feet) that aren't incredibly overpriced, but still high quality?

Huh-- I just checked it out, and you're right. That's weird. I'll call him and ask what's up.

Edit: I just noticed this on the front page of the site:

"4/9/09 - Due to the large number of pending orders, I am not taking new orders for most custom cables at this time. Any parts or pre-made cables are still available to order. "

I'm not sure who to suggest now--there are several other custom companies that make Canare/Belden instrument cables at reasonable prices, but I can't remember their names off the top of my head.

Anyway if you are doing online shopping around, look for cables made with Canare, Belden, or Mogami wire.

Butch's downtime doesn't shock me--my guitarist ordered us some amp leads and it took about a month to get to us. The last time I ordered from him it only took 2 weeks, so I figured he was experiencing the double-edged sword that is the Talkbass Bump.

To the OP: I would start googling "custom guitar cable" and see what you turn up (and post those findings here plz!).

I make my own usually... but last time I checked there were so many companies making good cables out of quality connectors and bulk raw cable from various manufacturers who've specialized in just that for SR and MI for decades. It shouldn't be an issue to find great stuff that's available on quick order.

I'm glad to see Butch is enjoying such success! That can be a difficult stage, though, when you find you have to turn away business, because you don't want to inadvertently train your customers to always go elsewhere.

Sounds like John Hall's problem;)

I have been building my own cables for 35 years now, and I recently (about a year ago) bought one from Butch. Very high build quality, and he is very good at it. But A-B ing the cables from any one of my own there is NO difference. I have never bought into the million dollar super cable myth.
My .02 Cents. :hiding:
It's either built right with good mats, or it isn't. If the cable gets abused it will break. Doesn't matter who makes them.
